Middle name to go with Marley (boy)

DS IS ALREADY NAMED THIS so if this isn't to your taste please don't post to tell me, I'd rather live in a bubble where everyone LOVES the name as much as me .

Ok so ds born on Friday is called Marley, his surname begins with J and has two syllables.

We can't agree on a middle name, i'm happy for him not to have one as i don't and i haven't ever seen the lack of one as a great loss.

DP would like him to have one but hasn't actually got a name that he's really keen on.

So options

are

Marley Ray (think they flow well, but not keen on Ray as a stand alone name so not sure why i'd use it as a middle name)

Marley Joseph (dp's Grandad, but makes me think of Marley Joe~ slightly hill billyesk)

Marley Luther (My grandad, not sure if it's too close to Martin Luther...?)

Marley William (family name from dp's side, dp's middle name)

Marley James (this is my favourite but James is ds1's middle name, will i look bonkers giving both boys the same middle name? DP Is James)

Please feel free to suggest names, We would like to register him on Monday so need to decide either way asap

so what did you call him? only fair to tell us!

pranma · 30/09/2009 17:07

I do like Marley James and his db will be able to talk about 'Marley and Me'

overmydeadbody · 30/09/2009 17:02

Marley is a lovely name! I think Marley Ray flows really well.

devilsadvocaat · 30/09/2009 16:57

i think you should give him a middle name as your ds1 has one.

i thought marley ray before i read it on your list.

marley joseph is cool and no one with shorten joseph as it's a middle name.

also like marley william and james.

don't think it's bonkers to have the same although if you have a ds3 you must be prepared to name him XXX james too so he doesn't feel left out!

MaryMungo · 30/09/2009 16:53

Does DP have a middle name that goes?

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/09/2009 16:37

I didn't mean you shouldn't be on here with a new baby or anything - just that it sounded a bit like you were getting stressed about it and you didn't need to be. Hope the feeding gets better soon - not looking forward to that bit again !

Tell your dh you're far too knackered to chose and therefore he needs to make the decision. At least then you can blame him later if you need to

LittleMissBliss · 30/09/2009 16:24

He's asleep, after keeping me up all last night feeding half hourly - 2 hourly
The MW weighed him today and he has gone past his birth weight already so at least it's not all in vain .

Think i may actually have to toss a coin lol.

Out of the suggestions I like Joseph bet. Marleys a great name.

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/09/2009 16:09

Toss a coin then

Seriously - the middle name really doesn't matter that much. FWIW, I would go with William but either are fine.

Go and enjoy your new baby (and congratulations btw )

LittleMissBliss · 30/09/2009 15:29

still baout 50/50

between James and William.

Oh i don't know.

I do quite like William but am still drawn to James.

I wouldn't give two brothers the same middle name, personally.

I like Marley William best!

Allets · 30/09/2009 12:20

Marley James

Lovely and quite sweet for both boys to have the same middle name.

diddl · 30/09/2009 12:12

I´d go for William, unless there´s a name on your side to use.

littlemissm · 30/09/2009 11:20

i know a little girl called marlee rae

Wattinger · 30/09/2009 11:13

I like Marley William best!

petraboo · 30/09/2009 10:48

It was tongue in cheek, but I think they both still go together well

smother · 30/09/2009 10:46

I think Marley is a gorgeous name - well chosen!

I'd avoid Luther because Martin Luther is such a well-known name it does sound a little too close.

I like Marley Joseph and Marley James.
But perhaps it would be best to go with Marley william to avoid the same mn issue - and also, if it's your DP's family name, then there would be a sense of balance, one of daddy's names for each child?

Or, for a completely different suggestion:
Marley Orlando - that's just beautiful I think!

LittleMissBliss · 30/09/2009 10:41

*cheek, even

Petraboo I actually really like Robert, tongue and cheak nod to BOB!

FimboFortunaFeet · 30/09/2009 10:38

I think Marley is actually quite a hard name to put a second name with.

Marley Patrick
Marley Jon
Marley Hugh
Marley Reuben

LittleMissBliss · 30/09/2009 10:36

cob I do think they flow really well as names together! I like Rae as a first name for a girl but not Ray for a boy, this is why i'm not sure about it as a middle name.
Noah is a beautiful name... not sure about the flow with the last name though but will put it to DP when he gets home.

MamaG Christopher- is nice but doen't grab me, i completely agree that two -three- two
or two -one- two flows better that two -two-two.

Bob

petraboo · 30/09/2009 10:33

Jacob or Robert?

Ray and Luther are awful!

troutpout · 30/09/2009 10:06

James makes sense to me

cordonbleugh · 30/09/2009 10:03

I like Marley Ray, but then my DD is called Marley - Rae!!

How about Marley Noah?
