Sally

I would call my next DD this in a shot, what a pretty, classy name.

You are right, it IS a nice name, but with far too many 1970s associations ......

Makes me think of Aunt Sally, friend of Worzel Gummage. But thanks for sharing your re-discovery with us!

My Granny is Sally. Almost all my life (a very long time as I'm 42) I thought that was her given name, but I found out last year that her name is actually something else, Susan I think, or possibly Sarah. I must ask my Mum. I like it, it's one of those names that everyone knows but it isn't actually used very much (so far).

I would be tempted to name a child this (although my children came with names so I only got to give them middle names), although sometimes when I hear it it reminds me of a girl in my class who died in very tragic circumstances. I'd have to balance whether naming a DD after Granny would outweigh the memory of the other Sally. I think it's a cute name though.

Ahem, or anything else in between.

Sally is good name. She can be a folk singer or prime minister.

I've always liked it. lovely name. couldn;t use it - as my dad's once OW now wife has a daughter called Sally. not sure if that's a good enough reason for us not to use it, but I was thinking of my mum...

It is lovely, but once last year at the play area in Kew Gardens there were two little Sally's -- so clearly also rediscovered by others.

Jujubean77 · 29/09/2009 12:38

The Sally I knew was a very free- spirit, hippy, cool Mum of one of my pals so I may be influenced by this, but I still think it is pretty and strong at the same time.

I have always liked the name Sally.

francagoestohollywood · 29/09/2009 12:33

It is a lovely name, imo

suwoo · 29/09/2009 12:30

One of the mums at school is called it. I like it for a baby girl, not much different to Millie, Lily and Molly et al.

hellokitty123 · 29/09/2009 12:28

Not keen personally, but it wouldn't bother me.

BunnyLebowski · 29/09/2009 12:28

God no. It's dull and 70's tastic.

LadyMetroland · 29/09/2009 12:26

I know a baby Sally

perhaps due for a revival?

GooseyLoosey · 29/09/2009 12:25

Doesn't really do it for me - wrong images spring to ming. But have no strong feelings against it.
