What do you think about Loveday?

We've got a run of the mill surname and I'm considering this. DH also Cornish but many won't get the Cornish connection and might think it is an American made up type name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ineedsomesleep · 05/08/2010 12:55

Really like it. Will save up that suggestion for if my sister ever gets pregnant, her DP is Cornish too.

We actually do know one Loveday but never realised it was Cornish before.

Doozie · 05/08/2010 12:29

Love it! When I first heard it I thought it was a bit odd, but now really love it. Already knew about the Cornish connection and have just read Rosamunde Pilcher's 'Coming Home' and one of the characters in that is called Loveday.

NiceCuppaT · 04/08/2010 17:24

I love it and I get the Cornish connection!

myweeangel · 04/08/2010 14:42

yuk

yellowflowers · 04/08/2010 10:01

I know one. to start with I thought it very odd but has totally grown on me and is now v cute.

MummyLovesSadie · 04/08/2010 09:46

All I'm saying is that I'm sure the op has made her mind up whether she wants to use the name or not by now.

Valbonne09 · 04/08/2010 09:13

So what, still relevant? You mean people think of having babies every year?! Crazy!

MummyLovesSadie · 03/08/2010 12:33

Another resurrection of a year old thread??

Valbonne09 · 03/08/2010 12:19

I love it and it is our number one choice for a daughter. That said, I am from the West Country and have recently moved back there from London. Also know of another Loveday locally and it really suits her. Also, there is a news reader on ITV called Loveday, obviously didn't do her any harm and she hasn't felt the need to change it. If you need to shorten it we like Daysie or Days for nicknames. Each to their own I say...

Vivia · 31/10/2009 19:47

I adore it and wish I had the guts to use it for a future DD. I don't know about Cornish but it feels rather Old Hollywood glamour to me. Do it!

blushes · 23/10/2009 13:42

I know someone who has this as a middle name. She wasn't keen on it as a child, but that was in the days when everyone had sensible names like Sarah and Rachel. These days, Loveday as a first name wouldn't sound outlandish at all.

I like it- there's something quite Bond-girlish about it (but not in a slutty way- sounds like one of the more intellectual Bond girls with clever jobs who have no time for Bond's antics and totally has the upper hand )

boodleboot · 23/10/2009 09:30

Demelza is the name of a childrens hospice and that is about one of the saddest connotations i can think of.....

choosyfloosy · 23/10/2009 02:56

I do love it but.... i think it is quite a load on a child.

I LOVE demelza. Dem as a shortening is quite cool too.

mathanxiety · 23/10/2009 02:34

Lovely, sounds old-fashioned as well as Cornish.

happyjules · 22/10/2009 23:07

Love it.

Cluttergump · 22/10/2009 10:58

i really really like it....wish i were brave enough - it sounds so whimiscal and yet suitably regal. brilliant name discovery...

cloelia · 21/10/2009 23:20

Adore it. Very Rumer Godden. Hope you used it.

dogstar · 05/10/2009 15:51

Like it and also Lowdy. If I was cornish I would consider it.

ConFuschias · 05/10/2009 11:47

Not for a first name. They will never forgive you.

SilentBob · 05/10/2009 11:08

I love Loveday and Kerenza.

LilianGish · 03/10/2009 23:55

Ridiculous - is this a joke?

sophietom · 03/10/2009 23:50

Maybe use it as a middle name, DS's middle name is Piran (we thought about it as Christian name but didn't want him to have a name that he would always have to explain to people iyswim)

cityangel · 03/10/2009 23:46

If there's a connection and you're happy with it and any comments/teasing then go for it.
I think its one of those names that could be restrictive to the child if they set-up life outside Cornwall

sophietom · 03/10/2009 23:45

I grew up in Cornwall and have never met a Loveday... sorry but think she would be teased
If you are looking for a Cornish girls name Morwenna and Jenna are nice IMO

wildfig · 03/10/2009 23:33

i knew a girl called Loveday Cumming at university.

(Yes, the teasing was mighty. But then we got used to it.)
