next door neighbours dog is named Nola and my cousins cat is also Nola

I think I prefer Nova, Nuala and Nyla but Nola is pretty and still fairly unusual.

I know one aged 2. It's not my usual style, but I really like it actually. I like how it's easy to spell and pronounce yet it's not super popular.

I quite like it, I prefer Nona/Nonah - it means 'ninth' though and I'm not planning on having that many!

Would use it just as 'Nola' on its own, but just not sure about it. Seems to provoke mixed reactions here as well. Hmm, Lola might be an idea too- or else Nina. Phew, glad I still have few months to go..

Urghh! Noelle is even worse, reminds me of runny noses for some strange reason. No it's definitely not happening for us-DH can whistle (can you tell I'm very hormonal and fed up with 3 weeks to go lol!?)

The main female character in "Showboat" is Nola, but it's short for Magnolia. I think it sounds a bit "made up" as a name on its own. What about Noelle, if DH wants to use his grandad's name?

There's also a Nola in Woody Allen's film Match Point. Wonder if it's more of an American name?
