Tamsin - Could she or I live with it??

Hubby convinced this is what we should call 2nd baby if a girl. But not sure if I like it or not... Meets criteria of being

  • multi-syllabic (last name a v common single)
  • not in the top whatever
  • not too modern
  • doesn't clash with 1st daughter name Verity in rhyme or theme
  • don't know anyone else with it

Is it clunky, unpretty (wouldn't go as far as ugly), 80's, interesting?? Really unsure about it but so struggling to agree something and could pass it just so we can stop talking about it.... Thoughts appreciated, can be brutal....

I was going to say what AvengingGerbil said only we called the Tamsin we knew Tampax. (Apologies to all Tamsins.)

I'm undecided about Tamsin - so if I met a lovely little girl called Tamsin, I'm sure it would win me over!

Not sure if that's helpful or not

KaDeWeh · 14/09/2009 15:18

I know a nice Tamsin.

Isn't Tamsin an abbreviation of Thomasina? You could call your DD Thomasina and Tamsin for short. Thomasina is a very nice name, and not at all common.

I really dislike it, sorry. It does sound clunky to my ears, very wet, and Tammy is just awful.

Love Verity though. Don't spoil it with a Tamsin!

DH and I talked about Tamsin. What put me off was the 'tampon' nickname being given at school!

(I went to school with a Tamsin who was never nicknamed Tampon as far as I know, but you never know do you!)

AvengingGerbil · 14/09/2009 14:54

I was at school with a Tamsin in the 70s, who was universally known as Tampon (sorry).

Ha ha interesting!!

Tammy is a terrible shortening - make sure you don't allow it! Tammy is v wet.
Jasmine is a bit chav.
Tamzin/Tamasin/Tamsin OK but quite rah.

schmizaj · 14/09/2009 14:44

So maybe think of 'Tamsin's' as nice girls? I'm not British so don't know if there are any other connotations with it... (You know looking at the school role making assumptions etc)

schmizaj · 14/09/2009 14:12

Yes Tammy a bit wet, but call 1st daughter by first name so could discourage it
