Go on - what are the beautiful names that you love and would go for if you had the courage?

dd's name is flora- was thinking about Penelope, Esme or Ella for next?

barbiebigpants · 20/09/2009 14:41

devon...girl or boy.
In fact in 20 weeks thats what my first lo will be called...cant see it in the top 100

TinaSparkles · 20/09/2009 14:39

DD's middle name is Tabitha, I've a second cousin called Rowan, friend's DSis is a Flora, boy over the road is a Lachlan, I work with a Felicity and there's a number of cats round our way with some of the names mentioned!

What about a Kevin, Sharon or Tracey? Don't think they're in the top 100 anymore!

Rindercella · 20/09/2009 14:24

Yes, DD's middlename is Clarabelle. Very bovine, tis why I chose it

justbeenforapromenade · 20/09/2009 01:17

About the Mirabelle/ cow thing. Simply that people have said it sounds like a name you would call a cow. Like Clarabelle or Bluebell.

Oh but seeker, you do sometimes need some courage to go for the name that you truly love. I needed a small tad of courage with dds name, as it's one of those old lady names that 4 years ago I saw people dis quite frequently on this very forum for being an old-fashioned name. Now, it's become a lot more popular, but not overly so,and everyone, including dd, loves it, so I made the right choice!! I am looking for a name that is not currently popular but could become so in the future. Unless you would rather play it safe and follow the herd, you do need a tinsy bit of courage.

I don't get the Mirabelle - Cow connection either...

A mirabelle to me is a delicious (plum like) fruit - very common in Germany (the fruit, not the name, that is). Apparently it's called mirabelle plum in English .

PuppyMonkey · 18/09/2009 12:48

I have an Esme (2) and a Madeleine (12). No idea what names are in the top 100 so don't know if they are in it. There are no other Esmes or Madeleines in their nursery/school.

fanjolina · 18/09/2009 12:41

bugger - the Keavy bit of post was meant for another names thread

fanjolina · 18/09/2009 12:40

what would the cow comments be in relation to Mirabelle, justbeenforapromenade? (love your name, btw)

Thought of another possible name for the OP:
Keavy

Sounds similar, but much more original. Knew a lovely Irish girl with that name.

belgo · 18/09/2009 06:42

Carmen
Adele
Vivienne
are all lovely names for a girl.

Boy's names we considered:
Thor
Axel
Wulfric

They are more normal in Belgium though.

Having recently watched Robin Hood, I adore the name Archer - would never use it though.

seeker · 18/09/2009 06:24

Nobody should ever call a baby any name that calls for courage. You don't know how much courage he or she will have as they grow up, and what else they might need it for.

Cortina · 18/09/2009 06:20

Barnaby or Barnabus.

justbeenforapromenade · 18/09/2009 00:05

some lovely names here,

Mirabelle is lovely but I fear the cow comments.

ooops - sorry for the lack of punctuation, i got rather excited and my fingers ran away with me!

tummytickler · 17/09/2009 19:50

Persephone - i have always loved this - it was dd2's name in utero, and we nearly used it and didn't - we called her Pearl, but now worry that Pearl and Persephone are too similar, so i will never get to use it

Also Octavia, Phyllis, Cordelia, (dh said no)

Boys - Ptolomy, Bertram, Jeremy (dh said no.

Although none of my dc's names are top 100, i think most are far from being in the top 100 although i did worry that Iris might scrape in this year - but my Iris is 8, so she'll be really old i think before it is top 100 then i wont mind so much!

fanjolina · 17/09/2009 17:31

Xanthe
Marielle
Mirabelle
Clementine

Rindercella · 17/09/2009 17:28

India - beautiful name imo.

Lockets, as you know I love Cassius and it is my #1 choice if DC2 is a boy!

waitingforbedtime · 17/09/2009 17:25

Girls:
Harriet
Henrietta
Clara
Jemima
Emmeline
Elspeth
Polly
Kitty

Boys:
Lachlan
Innes
Darra gh
Eoghan

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2009 17:16

Neither of mine are in the top 100 (although one has been mentioned on here as someone's DD!). We considered Antonia and Agata for DD2 and Harriet was a strong contender for DD1.

DD2's name is generally considered poncetastic by Mumsnet, but I love it.

Fimbo · 17/09/2009 14:23

Susannah
Rosalind
Miranda
Lara
Jillian

(not sure where they fall though)

fanjolina · 17/09/2009 14:15

Felicity
Oriana

Scottie22 · 17/09/2009 14:15

My kids both have names outside the top 100 - dd is Anya and ds is Laurie - obviously I think they are lovely!!
There are some nice names on this thread - I love Camille and Flora! I would have considered Gilbert for our ds if dp had liked it!

KAEKAE · 17/09/2009 14:09

I love Annabella...but we have long surname so it just doesn't flow well!
