I want something traditional, possibly biblical.

Matthew is the only name striking me at the moment. DS2 is due in 7 weeks.

loads of boys!! My nephew and his partner are having a little girl - due on Christmas Day - she will be first girl in our family since I was born almost 53 years ago

piprabbit · 12/09/2009 01:21

Shabba - so many boys . My DS is also 15 months, and he is an excellent cuddler too - bigs hugs and sloppy kisses (although he sometimes bites my nose ).

shabbapinkfrog · 12/09/2009 01:16

Yes he would have been 25 - in fact he is 25!!!! Being a gran is ace - I have my grandson Lewis every afternoon while his lovely Mum works. He leaves me cream crackered but he is at a brilliant age....15 months and trying so hard to talk. We have been having 'snogs' 'loves' and 'kisses' all day today

I have 27 year old twin boys, a 25 year old boy and a 12 year old boy xxxxxx

alypaly · 12/09/2009 01:11

just read your profile...im 53 and cant wait to be a grandma too. Sorry for your losses. Would Matthew have been 25 if he were still with you? My sons are 21 and 17 and i love them to bits

shabbapinkfrog · 12/09/2009 01:10

nicknames are brilliant names xxx

piprabbit · 12/09/2009 01:08

Love it - and chose it for our DS.

Unfortunately we seem to have settled on Moo as nn - will have to rethink before school starts

shabbapinkfrog · 12/09/2009 01:05

You dont sweetheart - just check my profile...it goes worse!!! Oh yes Matthew always has to have 2 t's!!! I have had Daniel, Gareth, Matthew and Thomas. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

alypaly · 12/09/2009 00:59

shabbapinkfrog ..how awful for you to loose your precious son. i dont know how you ever come to terms with that, if ever

alypaly · 12/09/2009 00:58

the best ,but with 2 t's

shabbapinkfrog · 12/09/2009 00:56

My DS3 was, and is, called Matthew or Matty for short. He died in 1992 when he was almost 8 years old. Its a fantastic name....a strong name....a respectful name....it means, as others have said 'gift from god.' My Matty was certainly that xx

PestoSurfMonster · 11/09/2009 20:44

boring

I like it

simplesusan · 11/09/2009 20:25

Matthew is a great name but I am biased too.

There are quite a few though, even though I didn't know any when I had my ds.

Loujalou · 11/09/2009 14:22

Also like Adam but I am completely biased on that one.

Loujalou · 11/09/2009 14:20

Love it! Great name. If I ever get pregnant again and have another boy he will be a Matthew (probably).

Matty is lovely name. At uni all Matt's were good looking boys. Also my brother was called Matthew for first few days of his life.

MamaLazarou · 10/09/2009 20:34

Matthew? Meh.

Matt is silly.

Supercherry · 10/09/2009 20:27

Well, it's a real possibility for DS2 so thanks everyone.

Gladders, while I love the slightly more unusual names like Isaac, Noah etc, they just wouldn't suit us as a family.

Popularity isn't a huge issue for me, I would just probably try to avoid the top 10.

I know loads of Matt's my age but no little ones

have been out with a couple so wouldn;t use it myself - too many assossciations

but traditional, classic never going to be embarassing

lena522 · 10/09/2009 17:24

Love Matthew :D

willowstar · 10/09/2009 17:24

well...maybe it is just me, but I don't really like it. I don't like Matt...because to me that is something you wipe your feet on, but I prefer it to Matty which just doesn't trip easily of my tongue but is, as crumpette says, a good international name. just not to my taste.

dogonpoints · 10/09/2009 17:17

s'ok, no strong feelings

crumpette · 10/09/2009 17:12

I like the Matthew I once knew sigh....

Like the nn Matty for little kids, also quite international- Matteo et al

gladders · 10/09/2009 17:09

interesting... Matthew often gets a 'meh BORING' reaction on MN but the majority of posts are positve here.. spect it's because everyone has a ds called Matthew - me too!

BUT it's only about no 26 in the popularity list - have only met one other same age as ds (4), and people know how to spell it.

IME you're either a Matthew kind of person or you're not. In the same way thatI cou never consider naming my son Noah/Isaac/Merlin/some of the other names that crop up on here
