When he runs off in the supermarket you can yell out "Has anyone seen my little Willy?", though your dp/dh should yell this out for maximum effect

pmsl Reminds me of old Ethel in Eastenders - always having problems with her Little Willie

Zeeky · 04/09/2009 11:15

My DS is called William, and we often shorten it to Willy . We also call him WillyFred (as his middle name is Frederick!)

Obviously once he gets older we will be more likely to call him Will.

mears · 04/09/2009 09:42

Take your point seeker

Just shows the change in the times doesn't it? No-one sniggers when his name is said. He could have been called his full name of William but that has just never been the case. No-one bats an eyelid as that is just who he has always been.

seeker · 04/09/2009 09:24

"Hello, my name's Penis - that's spelled Peenice"

As Mr Spock so memorably said "A difference which makes no difference is no difference"

mears · 03/09/2009 23:44

My 92 year old Dad is called Willie - subtle difference I think (shortened William).

not a good idea

Mumcentreplus · 03/09/2009 23:40

You know it's wrong ..like Randy or Fanny

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 03/09/2009 23:38

I have an Argentinian mate called Huili, short for Ghuileirmo (?sp). He is massively regretting his family's choice of diminutive since moving to the UK.

Will sounds quite dashing though.

Tortington · 03/09/2009 23:33

getting teased because your name is another word for cock is somethng that can be avoided

the whole thing is ridic

as is fox

just ridic

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:32

I know a Dickie and a Willy and both are very cool guys. Both were teased as kids but they coped.... everyone gets teased don't they?
I think if you like Willy, go for William and then pick and choose nicknames to fit his age.... so Willy might be cute for baby, Billy or Will as a teenager and William when he wants to be taken seriously.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:07

so famous you forgot his surname

he's todger sized so it doesn't count......

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 23:06

GrimmaTheNome · 03/09/2009 23:02

I know a very nice Will whose wife embarrasses him by calling him Willy.

Free Willy .

Just because americans think a name is OK doesn't make it so. Knew a guy who had to be gently told that when on business trips to the UK, he should not warmly announce himself with outstretched hand and 'Hi I'm Randy'.

MyCatIsAFleaBagNoMore · 03/09/2009 23:01

I know a Will and a Bill and a Billy, but the only Willy's I've known have either been amazing or crap and ALL attached to their owners (TMI?)

seeker · 03/09/2009 22:59

Sorry, i was having a James May moment.

Go for William - and the whole range of abbreviations are open to you.

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 22:58

Laurie cockcake may be more appropriate

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 22:57

akamummy · 03/09/2009 22:55

Billy is a great name. Will is quite nice.

BrigitBigKnickers · 03/09/2009 22:54

Can you imagine what a real child called Willy Wonka would be called?

A misplaced "a" and he would be scarred for life.

seeker · 03/09/2009 22:54

Permission to say "COCK"?

YesImSinister · 03/09/2009 22:52

PMSL at Laurie

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 22:50

look you daft bat, you think Fox is ok too

there is a gap between emily and jack that doesn't need to be filled with 'Sequoia'

when i see Willy i think wee willie winkie - it's not great now is it?

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 22:49
