Fox for a boy. Is this just too off-the-wall?

Bloody hell, I've heard it all now

akamummy · 08/09/2009 13:35

Can't have Max - best friend has just had a Max.
My grandfather was Macfarlane - so thought Mac might be a nice family name but also a bit quirky.
Still like Fox though.....
Why are boys names so hard? Girls are a whole lot easier!

I immediately thought Mulder too. I think it may suit him when he develops into a ruggedly handsome man.

You also suggested Mac, so how about Max as a compromise?

serinBrightside · 07/09/2009 22:00

I know a Fox.
He has red hair as well.
He is not bullied, only problem was that his little sister used to mis-pronounce it with unfortunate results.

mrswill · 07/09/2009 20:13

I love the name, and i can see the attraction of it. But Foxx would make me think of a porn stars moniker, not that ive seen any of course, ahem [ wink]. So i like it with a single X.

lulahrose · 07/09/2009 17:29

Bear? Bay?

KERALA1 · 07/09/2009 15:11

I knew a little Fox. So sweet, although he did have very red hair so suited him. I was abit taken aback by the name at first but the mum was so lovely as was the little boy I soon came round to it. They were American though maybe more popular over there?

Akamummy am with you on wanting to strike out from the names everyone else chooses - we have had a few raised eyebrows from the Tom/ Jack/Grace crowd but the world would be a dull place if we all followed the majority!

Prunerz · 07/09/2009 14:55

I think any kid named Fox, people will assume the mother had a crush on David Duchovny c 1995

Prunerz · 07/09/2009 14:52

Spot...Misty...Chunk....

akamummy · 07/09/2009 14:31

Rex? Mac? Rover? Bouncer? Ha ha!
I'm guessing the dog's name....

OP posts:
MrsJamin · 07/09/2009 11:30

It's not a human name, it's an animal name. No.

FranSanDisco · 07/09/2009 10:56

Prunerz I think my son has the same dog's name as yours .

FranSanDisco · 07/09/2009 10:54

I know a boy called Fox. He's about 10 yo. He has a brother called River and a sister called Star. Very brave names me thinks.

diddl · 07/09/2009 10:53

Rover??!!

Prunerz · 07/09/2009 10:37

Anyway I can't talk, my son has a dog's name.

Prunerz · 07/09/2009 10:36

There is research on names making a person and vice versa. It's socio-economic background that is the biggest factor in making a person, by a long way.

Giving a child a name that is difficult within the group you have aspirations for them to be a part of, could be quite a hindrance. So if you have a son and have decided you are going to work hard for him to have chances you never had, calling him something neutral like Thomas or David is possibly an advantage over, say, Jayden or Duwayne.

abear · 07/09/2009 10:22

I know a Fox and it doesn't seem odd at all - it suits him and I think that is usually the case. Children just do seem to grow in to their names so if it is your favourite you should go for it.

luludoll · 07/09/2009 10:14

akamummy its the person that makes the name not the other way around.

akamummy · 07/09/2009 09:36

Boring names are boring, you forget them instantly.

Just as a matter of interest, anyone got any opinions on Mac as a first name?

OP posts:
luludoll · 07/09/2009 08:41

Don't do it, give him him a borring normal first name and then use Fox as the middle name and call him Fox at least then he can drop it if he really hates it.

akamummy · 07/09/2009 08:00

Skyler? Never heard of that one but quite like it. For a boy? I know a guy called Skye but never met a Skyler.

OP posts:
Umlellala · 04/09/2009 13:42

Not sure about Fox but certainly don't think it's laughable. I admire your responses to the yawnmaking, predictable 'why don't you call him john?' and 'what about cheese? or frog?' posts. IMO if you both love it - go for it.

My ds is Skyler (Sky for short) - am desperately trying to make it popular so please consider! Would work with the whole Fox news/Sky news things too .

MillyR · 04/09/2009 13:28

Could you not call him Charles on the birth certificate? Then he would have a proper name for his CV when he is older, but everyone could call him Fox during childhood as:

Charles=Charlie=Fox.

I like Fox as a boy's name, but think people need a sensible name for job interviews and so on.

It would be like Thomas/Tom, Catherine/Cathy and so on.

diddl · 04/09/2009 13:16

Hilarious-and chavvy.

moomonkey · 04/09/2009 12:50

Awful, self indulgent name...
