What do you think of Ernest?
We really like it but i am not sure it goes with our other boys names (Eli and Amos) although it does fot with our dd's.
Also worry it might get mega popular along with Albert, Archie, Ned etc.
Would love some opinions please!

If you happen to have a very good looking, popular, sporty, extrovert DS I expect that he could carry it off-however I think you ought to allow for the fact that he is none of those things and Ernest would be a terrible handicap in life, Ernie-even worse!

malung · 30/08/2009 19:31

Say it out loud. Sorry, but it is really bad in so many ways. Please don't do it.

Podrick · 29/08/2009 15:10

Love it

mrswee · 29/08/2009 15:03

I have a friend called 'Ernst'

I prefer that, I think it's Ductch, well at least my friend is anyway!

tummytickler · 29/08/2009 14:55

i still love it - defo not pregnancy hormones as it was almost ds2's name. does it really go with 2 Hebrew names?
combo would be Ernest Josiah (after dh) Merlin ( i like it!)

A wonderful name. Do it.

FatFree · 29/08/2009 00:30

I dont usually post on this forum, usually sit here thinking "noooo" but hey its your decision.

But had to post to say "nooooooooo"!!

wook · 28/08/2009 23:19

It's my ds's middle name, after his grandfather. Nearly was first name! It's hugely unfashionable, but maybe that's a good thing!

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 28/08/2009 22:34

love it.

Albert .Archie ..Ernest ...Give me a nice Jayden any day ...and I'm being serious

janeite · 28/08/2009 22:13

Ernest is much nicer than Albert or Archie.

Thunderduck · 28/08/2009 22:10

I think Albert and Archie are awful too.

random · 28/08/2009 22:02

But baby Ernest ...sorry but pmsl

Firawla · 28/08/2009 21:27

I think it fits in with those kind of names, so can see it getting slightly more used but prob not mega popular, i think its quite nice

Cluttergump · 28/08/2009 21:12

NO...Ernie is just not a nice name imo

MrsVik · 28/08/2009 20:49

This was my grandfather's name. I must say I don't see what's awful about it! If names like Albert and Archie can be 'in' then why not Ernest?

Scottie22 · 28/08/2009 20:43

My friend has a ds called Ernest - was quite surprised when she told us her choice I must admit! I quite like Ernest tbh but hate Ernie though - reminds me of Sesame Street!

piscesmoon · 28/08/2009 19:14

I would say that the chances of it getting mega popular are nil!

piscesmoon · 28/08/2009 19:12

Poor child!

mathanxiety · 28/08/2009 19:08

Yikes! No.

gingerbunny · 28/08/2009 18:13

i don't think there's any chance of it becoming popular let alone mega popular!
your pregnancy hormonies are playing tricks on you, please don't do that to a baby.

random · 28/08/2009 18:04

Nooooooooooooooooooo

jamandjerusalem · 28/08/2009 18:03

I love it. DS was going to be Ernest Rex, but it didn't quite suit him when he was born. He's Arthur.

What's wrong with a shortening to Ernie?? Not great for me as I'm in the south west and it doesn't sound lovely in a Somerset accent, but I think it's a sweet name.

Plus 'The Importance of Being Earnest' is my favourite Oscar Wilde work!
