Is Rowan OK for a girl?

And any ideas for middle names?
(Still undecided on names for the twins...sorry if you contributed to this thread a month ago!)

So far have: Arthur John and Henry Paul if 2 boys

Daisy Kate for a girl
But if it's 2 girls...... Daisy Kate and
Rowan ?

What do you think?

Yes. I always thought of it as a girl's name TBH. When my parents had a house in Mull it was called 'Ach na Caorann' which means Field of Rowans and their fishing boat was called Rowan. I love the trees and I love the name. But DH refused for all our DC

Another Antonia Forest fan here - I love it for a girl, though there was a boy with that name in DD's class, but he was always known by his middle name.

Doghaspoints - 'row as in argue' is referring to the sound of the synonym, not the -ue sound.

But Rowyn will be pronounced Ro-win, not Row-an. Why on earth would you do that? Why take a reasonably straighforward name and make it more complicated? [baffled emoticon]

When dp and I were very young and discussing our future children we agreed on a dd called Rowan. 20 years later when we actually had a dd to name he reneged on his promise. Dirty rotten deal breaker that he is!

our very own Policywonk is a Rowan IIRC. I know Rowan's of both genders and I think it's a great name.

I love Rowan as a girls name. Went to uni with a Rowan and she was lovely. I would pronounce it like the tree rowan. Rowantree sweets is the only slight drawback - maybe a little teasing possible there? But as long as your surname isn't fruit pastille she'll be fine

All your suggested names are two syllables (sp?) and then one syllable for the middle name. So something like Jane, Anne, Eve, might work as a middle name.

Get hold of the Antonia Forest books. Autumn term, attic term, cricket term and a few more. Great Rowan female role model!

I really like Rowan Williams so would consider it for a boy.....i don't think it is particularly pretty sounding for a girl but liked shubiedoo friend spelling of Rowyn....spesh as you can then have Wynnie as nickname....i am slightly obsessed with nickname Wynnie...

Rowan is a beautiful name. Ours (girl) is row as in boat. I think any middle name goes with it tbh.

Ah yes, glamorous and interesting would be great. And obviously career-minded (something that makes a lot of money) and keen to support her dear old folks in their old age...

I love Rowan for a girl. I met one once (an adult) and she was very glamorous and interesting.

Agree Rowan is more popular in Scotland than elsewhere and think that for girls it's pronounced Row-an as in row rhyming with cow and Ro-an as in row the boat for boys - like Rowan Atkinson.
I know a Rowan girl and Roan boy both born in the last 9 months.

Famous(ish) Rowan is Rowan Pelling.

I've always thought of Rowan as a boys name.

I would always avoid any name which is used for both genders.
