i know the most unlikely Brenda

queenofthenewyear · 26/08/2009 23:38

Mine is never used nowadays - it's one of those names that you think is really everyday, yet you can't think of anyone you know with it. I like that, though, and have called DD and DS by names that everyone knows, everyone can spell and pronounce, but there's probably not going to be anyone else their age with the same name.

sorry wilbur, had to do it.... am not called Brenda in RL

juneybean · 26/08/2009 23:10

I don't recall seeing mine on a baby names thread but its coming back I think.

Apparently it was very popular in the 80's but I only knew one other person in my year with it.

Hulababy · 26/08/2009 23:06

It is the two generation up thing isn't it?

I just can't imagine lots of babies being called all the popular 70s names again!

wilbur · 26/08/2009 23:03

You're not married to someone called Colin are you?

wilbur · 26/08/2009 23:02

Ooops, sorry greyskull! Nothing wrong with Brenda, it's just one of my Mum's best mates' names and not one currently in fashion, I would say. Consider it changed to Margaret.

glitterkitty · 26/08/2009 23:00

mine is never mentioned- its too hideous.

Gayle. thanks dad.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 26/08/2009 23:00

what is wrong with Brenda????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

wilbur · 26/08/2009 22:59

What worries me is that if each generation tends to looks back to their grandparents for inspiration on naming their children (think of all the little Stans, Alfies and Rubys running about now), then my grandchildren are going to be saddled with the names of my parents' friends. I'm looking forward to being Granny to little Pam, Brenda, Colin and Brian.

Hulababy · 26/08/2009 22:56

Lulabee - is your name Louise? Was one of the post popular middle names by far when I was at school in late 70s and through the 80s. Louise is my middle name.

BikeRunSki · 26/08/2009 22:55

My name is on here quite often. It is either considered to be classic and beautiful, or nice but dull, but rarely disliked. It was not at all fashionable when I was born, but very popular now. Lots of people seem to have DDs with my name.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 26/08/2009 22:55

my name is never on the threads.. I think I am destined to become one of those old fashioned names that you don't hear of exept in old peoples homes

Hulababy · 26/08/2009 22:53

Mine appears from time to time as suggestions and I am always very suprised to see it. I have a nam every much popular in the 70s.

wilbur · 26/08/2009 22:52

Lulubee - you are either Jane or Claire

wilbur · 26/08/2009 22:50

I have yet to see my name on any lists and it is quite a regular, classic girl's name. I am clearly DEEPLY out of fashion. To be fair I don't look at that many of the baby name threads, but I have been here for about 6 years on and off, and have yet to see it. Dd's name, however, is all over the place!

bandgeek · 26/08/2009 22:49

Mine is either loved or hated.

I've never like it myself, it's much to harsh a name

FuckOffDailyMail · 26/08/2009 22:47

ah, you're Portia-Lou then Dizzy

sweetkitty · 26/08/2009 22:41

SK waves at dizzy

Mine is two 70s names that my mother in her infinite wisdom thought it was really exotic to double barrell

People NO to hyphens!!!

dizzydixies · 26/08/2009 22:38

FuckOff unfortunately not as it would be better than the alternative

nancy75 · 26/08/2009 21:14

mine comes up quite alot and i'm always suprised to see how much people like it, i hated it as a child and am still not that keen now.

FuckOffDailyMail · 26/08/2009 21:11

dizzydixies · 26/08/2009 15:58

EachPeachPearMum · 26/08/2009 15:53

Mine is sometimes suggested- more frequently as a middle name- seems universally liked... except by me
