Sophie I have an Eva who is nearly two, named after my mums middle name. I didn't think it was popular when I named her it but I think its defianatly growing in popularity now. Still love it though so my vote is for Eve

sophieandbelly · 19/08/2009 13:31

i never realised everybody thought of eve/evie as popular or common,my daughters evie and i no of no others and wen i tell people her name lots of people say 'oh thats pretty and u dont hear of many!' how strange!!!
altho she is now 2 so mayb there r more in the last 2 years.

(ella/ellie was my partners choicebut i said no to common!!! haha)

right the list
1- obviously eve is my fav! (no suprise there)

2- iris would have to b next-liking the granny names lately!

3-4 iam sorry lucy makes me think of someone very boring and dull, very much a jane name!!

and wen i see alice all i think of is- 'alice the camel has to humps... so go alice go!' anyone remember that frm school??
or 'alice? alice? who the f~ck is alice!'

prettybird · 19/08/2009 11:56

Agree two names: eg Eve and Alice - and then say you will decide the order once the baby arrives and you can decide which name she "looks" most like.

That's what we did pre-birth, when we could come up with girls' names, although we did have a short list (altohugh it wasn't that we awere disagreeing). Fortunately, we had ds and we we had already decvided on boys names!

FWIW my order is:
1.Alice (was on our girls' name short list)

  1. Eve (close friend's daughter is called that and it suits her)
Lucy and Iris: OK but wouldn't be on my short list.

I'm called Lucy and have always liked it and found it easy to live with - timeless and classic. Also love the name Alice - not many of them about now. Eve - millions of them about. Iris - cool about four years ago with celebs - probably past it's best before date now - probably going to become unfashionable just because it was so trendy.

BitOfFun · 19/08/2009 00:20

!)Eve
2)Iris
3)Alice
4)Lucy

IdrisTheDragon · 19/08/2009 00:17

Alice. Because it's DD's name

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 19/08/2009 00:05
  1. Alice. Possibly my favourite girl's name. The name my dh vetoed for our dd. Grr.
  1. Iris, as I like (virtually) all flower names. This one is a bit 'daughter of rock star' but so what.
  1. Eve. Very nice name.

4 (by a large margin) Lucy. Can't explain why, but this always conjures up the image of a soppy, weedy child.

Theteathings · 18/08/2009 23:54

Alice for me please - makes me think of Wonderland

Eve - I find a bit meh, dunno why? Very popular everywhere!

bumpybecky · 18/08/2009 22:43

I don't like Iris

Ev(i)e is lovely, but Lucy then Alice are my favourites

dd1 is Lucy Alice though so perhaps I'm biased

Nighbynight · 18/08/2009 22:39

susan - yes, Ive never liked the name Adam either lol

MrsMattie · 18/08/2009 20:37
  1. Eve - very popular but classic, feminine and simple.
  2. Alice - see above
  3. Iris - OK but very 'in vogue' with the chattering classes. the new Ella. There'll be loads of 'em about soon.
4) Lucy - yuck. Twee and girly. Not a grown up name. Lucille?
123jenna321 · 18/08/2009 18:45
  1. Lucy
  2. Eve
  3. Iris
  4. Alice
artichokes · 18/08/2009 14:21

Iris is lovely. Not too popular yet classic. I love it. Anna and Iris sound perfect together.

Alice is also gorgeous and timeless.

The other too (Lucy and Eve) are just a little dull.

nickelbabe · 18/08/2009 14:12

lucy's the prettiest name.
then Eve, but i think that might be getting too popular.
alice is beautiful name that would suit into adulthood, too, i think.

sorry, my vote goes with Alice, then.

JemL · 18/08/2009 14:05

I love Iris, and it would have been on my list for a DD.

MaElsie · 17/08/2009 13:40

Eve - so elegant, and cute as Evie too
Alice - again, very pretty

Not Lucy (too dull) or Iris (nice but too old-lady-ish)

simplesusan · 17/08/2009 13:33

Nightbynight-pml at your interpretation of Eve.
Do you feel the same about the name Adam though?

mathanxiety · 17/08/2009 01:53

Alice -- suitable for any age, any occupation, nice nn possibilities, feminine name, graceful and non frilly at the same time.
Eve -- again, suitable for any age, any occupation, nice nn possibilities, feminine, graceful and non-frilly.
Iris -- reminds me a bit of people my granny's age, but then I do know a baby named Ivy. I think plant names are timeless, and seem to be the wave of the moment (see Lily, Daisy). Also feminine, slightly delicate; the flower is complex in structure, lovely colours.
Lucy -- reminds me of I Love Lucy (old U.S. tv show. Lucy was a ditz and I can't shake the association with Loopy). It's a bit childish. Prefer Lucia?

bookbird · 16/08/2009 22:18

Love Alice, but there is a song called "Living next door to Alice" by Smokie. This was covered in the 90's (forget who by) with the added line "Alice, Alice, who the fck is Alice). In my part of the world, say Alice to a man aged 25 -45 and he will snort and chant back "who the fck is Alice"

I decided against Alice for my DD for this reason.

Nighbynight · 16/08/2009 21:49

Iris would probably be my choice from your original 4.
Alice - in wonderland? but it's also a nice name.
Lucy - don't like Luce/Loose, Juicy Lucy and all the other things that can be made from it.
Eve - I have never liked this name, but the only Eve I was familiar with was the bible one, and I was a very literal child, and I didn't like her for bleating "the snake made me do it"

simplesusan · 16/08/2009 20:32

My fave is Eve followed by Iris then closley by Alice and finally Lucy.

GrendelsMum · 16/08/2009 19:43

All nice. In order:

Lucy
Alice
Eve
Iris

yama · 16/08/2009 19:28

In order:

Lucy - great name. I love girl's names with 'L's in them.

Alice - nice enough. I wouldn't couple it with Anna though. Not keen on alliterative sibling names.

Eve - not with Anna as sibling. Agree with others here.

Iris - not keen. A bit harsh for my liking.

sunshiney · 16/08/2009 19:04

i only like Lucy and Alice. Eve is pretty too, but a bit too popular. Iris - i just think of eyeballs.

Lucy is a sweet and innocent name, makes me think of the little girl in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
If i had a Lucy i'd call her Lulu sometimes too!

slowreadingprogress · 16/08/2009 18:50

exactly the same as Winky and with the same reasons! Winky, are you me?
