so, some friends of ours have one child and are thinking of calling their next child a name which will make them an infamous pairing ie it's not Myra and Ian but we're getting there. So, I said, ooh, have you thought of the connections to blah they hadn't but now apparently the name is ruined and they don't like any other.Should i have said anything and if you were in danger of calling your kids 'fred and rose' or something else like that would you rather someone pointed it out?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hmm, I think that I would have said something too. It would have been said sooner or later anyway.

I would have made the connection, and I was not even living in the UK at the time.

Ah yes I probably would have pointed that out as well.
Not sure if it was me it would ruin the names for me but I think if it hadn't occured to me I would want it pointed out.

FimbleHobbs · 10/08/2009 14:31

Holly and Jessica - yes I would have pointed that out. But if I was the parent I don't think it'd ruin it for me.

FimbleHobbs · 10/08/2009 14:29

It really depends how infamous the pair are I think. And possibly even what their surnamer is...

No harm in mentioning it though, then its up to the parents to decide if its significant.

I googled my children's names before finalising them, my son is apparently wanted in Scotland for escaping from the Sheriffs Court (he was up for assault), and one variation of my daughter met a tragic end in Australia, but neither thing was enough to put me off.

sleeplessinstretford · 10/08/2009 14:29

holly and jessica actually-so it's the murdered rather than the murderers. both really nice names but unfortunately linked

If the pairing was that obvious and that notorious I probably would actually agree with Lena really someone would have at some point and after the baby was named it would have been worse to spoil the name then.

Bonnie and Clyde?? I am desperate to know what the name was now, if you told us one of them would we guess the other?

wonderingwondering · 10/08/2009 14:20

I wouldn't point it out. In twenty years' time, who knows what infamous or tacky pairings there will be, so there's no guarantee that the name(s) you choose won't attract negative connotations at some point.

And I don't think many people would see two toddlers and immediately think of serial killers!

lena522 · 10/08/2009 14:20

Well, if you hadn't pointed it out someone else would've probably notcied at some point. Better that they realise now than when the baby is here and it's too late to change it
