Just curious, maybe it's not obvious...

Thx!

agree with nappy

mopsyflopsy · 06/08/2009 14:22

Lila is German for Lilac, and it's pronounced Lee-la (in German and French).

Agree that to avoid any possible confusion, the most obvious options (for a Ly-la pronounciation) would be

Lilah

or

Lyla

qumquat · 06/08/2009 14:08

I think if you spell it Lilah it makes it less open to possible confusion (assuming you want the Lie-la pron.!), I also know a baby called Lyla. Lovely name any spelling!

frAKKINPannikin · 30/07/2009 00:26

The Lila I know says it Lee-la, but then she's not English and 'i' in French is 'ee' anyway.

plonker · 30/07/2009 00:05

Lie - la

simplesusan · 29/07/2009 23:34

LIE LA

nappyaddict · 29/07/2009 23:06

So basically

Leala, Lela, Leela all sound the same

Lila, Lyla, Lilah all sound the same

Layla, Laila, Laela all sound the same

Leila sounds like any of the above so don't go for that one if you don't want people to get confused

Remotew · 29/07/2009 23:00

Jaquie, felt really sorry for your nephew for a moment.

treacletart · 29/07/2009 22:58

Jaquelinehyde · 29/07/2009 22:54

Obviously I meant neice not nephew

Jaquelinehyde · 29/07/2009 22:53

Lie - la

lee-la is spelt leala. I know my nephew is called Leala poor thing

Remotew · 29/07/2009 22:49

Lil-a as in lily but with an a. Someone I knew too. Lovely name btw.

nappyaddict · 29/07/2009 22:46

No, Laila sounds nothing like Delilah so of course it isn't the short form of it I was talking about Lilah which can also be spelt Lila or Lyla.

magbags · 29/07/2009 18:44

Lee-la

zazen · 29/07/2009 18:43

You gotta hope she doesn't get largish - I've heard a Lila being called Lilo, you know the inflatable mattress.

Sofa put me off Sophie as well.

PestoSoggyMonster · 29/07/2009 18:36

Lee-lah

HerHonesty · 29/07/2009 18:33

i know lie-la, lay-la and leela. take your pick!

laila is NOT the short form of delilah. it is a name in its own right.

ScummyMummy · 29/07/2009 17:40

If I saw it written down I would have to ask whether it was lee-la or lye-la as I have heard people use both.

pasturesnew · 29/07/2009 17:39

lie-la

TwoHot · 29/07/2009 17:33

Lie-la

nappyaddict · 29/07/2009 15:55

It the short form of Delilah so Lie-la. I prefer the spelling Lilah though.

Lela is Lee-la and Leila can be pronounced Lie-la or Lee-la.

TheChilliMooseISNOTFOREATING · 29/07/2009 15:49

I know a lay-la too.

bkkmom · 29/07/2009 15:40

cheers, all! thx for input, I know of lee-la too, so just checking - I think it depends on the origin (Persian/Sanskrit)...

On wiki it says Lie-la. I must be the only person who knows a Lill-a.
