We quite like Wilfred and would probably shorten to Wilf or Wilfie but does it sound mental with our surname??? I have lost all sense of reason what with hormones and all that. DH thinks its ok but he is crackers so his opinion is not to be trusted .

Uuumnn this baby is almost 2 years old now... Don't think there's much point debating his name! Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/01/2012 17:46

I like Wilfred but with your surname, I think it sounds daft. Sorry.

makinglemonade · 19/01/2012 15:51

I like it, agree with poster who said it sounds like a writer or explorer :)

I like Wilf Wilson but not so much Wilfie Wilson

JestersHat · 19/01/2012 15:34

No, it doesn't go with your surname.

thing1andthing2 · 19/01/2012 15:08

Wilfred Wilson - its a no from me Grin
James, Edward and other suggestions are all nice though Smile

Isla77 · 19/01/2012 14:58

I think Wilfred Wilson sounds fine. Wilf Wilson does not have quire the same ring to it though.

hughsieoxf · 05/08/2009 12:39

I think this is lovely, reminicent of Willian Wilburforce. It's my surname too, so it's something I would do myself

MrsBadger · 04/08/2009 16:29

No

sorry

James? Edward?

screamingabdab · 04/08/2009 16:04

Nigel ?

MamaLazarou · 04/08/2009 15:31

I can't see anything wrong with Wilfred Wilson. Except that his nickname will be Willy, but if you can live with that, what's the problem?

slowreadingprogress · 01/08/2009 19:38

I don't have a thing against first and surnames that start with the same letter but I think Wilfred Wilson is too much of a tongue twister. I really, really wouldn't go for that. Even Wilf Wilson is not good

helips · 01/08/2009 18:59

I think it sounds great! go for it!

lottiejenkins · 01/08/2009 11:14

Sorry, that was my sons views on his name, remind me not to leave the computer on Mumsnet pages with Wilfred on them!!

lottiejenkins · 01/08/2009 09:55

i think better wilfred
is best from wilfred

gigglewitch · 31/07/2009 23:04

oh nooooooo
don't do it. sorry.
We had a similar idea lined up for our poor ds2, so glad I saw sense

skybright · 31/07/2009 23:01

I like it,but i have the same first name initial as surname,as does my OH. and one of my DD's.

It did'nt do any of these any harm..

Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Manson
Mike Myers
Bridget Bardot
Janet Jackson
Kiera Knightly

I'm sure there are loads more.

donnie · 31/07/2009 22:56

'Wilfy Wilson'?

why not Rolan Bolan or Zowie Bowie? Moon Unit Zappa, perhaps?

get real, babe.

MrsPurple · 31/07/2009 22:54

Hi my dd has an 'a' first name and 'a' for her surname and it sounds great. At the end of the day if you like it go with it. It's your child

herethereandeverywhere · 31/07/2009 22:35

It never did David Davis any harm!

Wilfred Wilson has rythmn (sp?), its balanced and sounds "whole" like they're meant to be together.

I really like it

twosofar · 31/07/2009 15:04

I have a Wilfred so I am biased, but I do know what you mean about the alliteration.. I like Hector for our as-yet imaginary DS3, but our surname is Harman, so I'm in the same boat as you, well potentially anyway. I don't think it's even the alliteration that's the problem it's the identical first syllable -_Wil.. Wil.. It's a bit like calling a child David Davies. It might be a bit much, but saying that if you love the name then go for it.
Stripeyknickers, my great aunt was called Molly McCarthy - agree it's a top name!

Issy123 · 30/07/2009 15:15

I think it sounds nice.

How about Albert/Albie if you like Berite.

notagrannyyet · 29/07/2009 18:45

Sorry I can't spell!

notagrannyyet · 29/07/2009 18:44

Harold Wilson was actually James Harold I think. Sorry really dislike Wilfed. I knew a nasty old man with the name.

HerHonesty · 29/07/2009 18:35

i love the name but its a little silly with your surname.

yama · 29/07/2009 18:24

I know I shouldn't but I like it.
