No worse than Luca which to me is very Italian and sounds peculiar if parents have no Italian link. Likewise Amelie which is also inexplicably very popular with people that have no French links.

I LOVE Chiara. It's a beautiful name, gorgeous, and your dd will love it too. And you definitely shouldn't fret about not being Italian. I posted on here a few months ago bc I wanted Angelo for a ds (and also have no Italian blood, but am pretty fluent in the language) and I got a right slating |I put it down to petty parochialism [sticks nose in air emoticon]

I couldn't give a fuck though and would still have used it had I not have a had a surprise GIRL !!! (Beautifully named Ishbel - and guess what I'm NOT Scottish)

aiti72 · 19/07/2009 21:19

Lovely name, we have Kiara!

MaggieBeBold · 15/07/2009 21:31

no. Clara is Spanish and Claire French for the same thing.

jkklpu · 15/07/2009 21:29

a lovely name - Italian for Claire

PixiNanny · 14/07/2009 16:40

I'd call my kid Chiara... but only because I heard it on Farscape first

Seriously though, it's okay, I'd be more inclined to name kids uniquely but still not too uniquely that it's weird...

nickelbabe · 14/07/2009 16:28

i love the name Chiara, because I have a friend called that.

I have to warn against it for a couple of reasons: everybody used to pronounce it chee-ara (with a "church" type "ch") instead of Keeara

and we used to sing the Kia-ora song - which might sound irrelevant for today, but i saw a retro kia-ora advert on a sky channel a couple of months ago.
my Chiara thought it was great because it said "we all ador-a" and she thought that was sweet.
(she was italian, btw)

Or Roman Bath?

If it goes with your surname do it!

muggglewump · 14/07/2009 16:06

I have a Niamh and we're not Irish, so I think it's fine.

stroppyknickers · 14/07/2009 16:06

I would think you couldn't spell Keira, and it sounds a teeny bit too much like Kiaora or whatever that drink was...

allaboutme · 14/07/2009 16:04

You pronounce it
Key ah ra

surname slightly french sounding (althugh not french at all!)

Pyrocanthus · 14/07/2009 16:02

Though Roman Colchester might be misunderstood.

Pyrocanthus · 14/07/2009 16:02

If your surname was Ramsbottom, that would make an outstanding name!

Lizzylou · 14/07/2009 15:59

Lovey name, very pretty.
What is your surname like?

I loved Roman whilst pg, but we have a very Northern sounding surname, coupled with the fact we lived in Ramsbottom it just sounded naff

castille · 14/07/2009 15:57

It's pretty but without an Italian connection I'd go for Clara I think.

Pyrocanthus · 14/07/2009 15:54

I don't think it's unheard of here - it's lovely.

nowwearefour · 14/07/2009 15:54

how do you pronounce it? sounds pretty but i am prob saying it wrong in my head

allaboutme · 14/07/2009 15:40

other two are Edward and Oliver

Rindercella · 14/07/2009 11:23

I love the name Chiara. Don't think it'd be a ridiculous choice for you at all.

loobylu3 · 14/07/2009 11:19

It's v pretty and sounds fine. What are your other 2 called (if you don't mind me asking)?

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 14/07/2009 10:47

It's lovely.

Metella · 14/07/2009 10:46

It's very pretty.

thell · 14/07/2009 10:46

Mammina · 14/07/2009 10:44

splodge2001 · 14/07/2009 10:35
