Jackie for a boy?

The more I think about this, the more I like it.
I don't want to use Jack and have Jackie as a nickname. I wonder if I'm influenced by the dashing Jackie Merrick from Emmerdale Farm.
So, what do you think? Dh is in agreement, now to see what others think, so please be honest

Not fair to name a boy Jackie.

Use Jack - call him Jackie if you like but at least then he has the option as he gets older

My grandpa is known as Jackie - his real name is John. This is quite common in Scotland - for Johns to be called Jackie. All these names are from the same hebrew root, meaning 'supplanter'

I liked it for ds, we ended up calling him Jack, but everyone calls him Jacky I actually think that is how he will be known at school. Dh's grandad was Jacky even though his real name was John which is dh's name so it is a family name. Also I loved Jackie McNamara when I was a teen (blush)

I grew up in the South East and there was a boy in my class called Jackie and no one thought it was a girl's name. He was a very boy boy, quite rough and tumble... depends if your son is like that or more in touch with his feminine side I reckon. Call him Jackie but allow him to shorten to Jack as soon as he wants. Or go for a longer name like Jacoby?

I think it's a good idea to call him Jack and maybe Jackie affectionately at home, as Prosecco suggested.
I certainly wouldn't choose Jackie - life is hard enough without being given a name that everyone is going to tease you for. Sorry!

there is a wee boy in DD1's class called Jackie, he's a right wee rough and tumble boy and has really made it his own - although this coming from a woman who has a DD called Dylan

Oh, I was so traumatised when Jackie from Emmerdale accidentally shot himself...and was so relieved to see him alive and well on breakfast television shortly thereafter, promoting his single...I think it was called "lend us a tenner / tenor"

There was a footballer in Scotland called Jackie McNamara. He'd be mid 30's now I'd say. His Dad was also a footballer with the same name.

I think it depends where you live. It's (or was at least,not sure if it is nowadays)quite common in the north to use it as a diminutive of Jack, but not so in the south, where I think it would be seen as a girl's name.

A friend of my Dad's is Jackie. I never questioned it tbh but I think I prob wouldn't do it. Too much teasibility.

use it as a nn for john or jack, but jackie? tis my mil's name, so even she would have rofl'd if we'd called ds1 that...

I have a Jack who is affectionatley known as Jackie. Why don't you want to do this? This way there will be no confusion on registers etc.

i know a little boy called John (actually he's 15 now but anyway) his parents have always called him Jackie-they aren't Geordies btw,
I like it, his middle name is Beau so he's Jacky Beau

i know a boy called jackie his changed it now as it is mainly known as a girls name the mentality of people made his life very hard butt o be honest he was surrounded by jackies and they were all women i think its too girly after seeing what he went through
