It's incredibly old lady. But then so are so many popular names now. Elsie and Mabel and Doris and Ruby and Ivy: to me they all conjure up ancient crones with bad dyed hair, too much bright red lipstick, and wrinkles as deep as the San Andreas Fault.

They were all my great-aunts.

But I guess for all you young things out there, they lack these connotations. So if you like it, do it.

Yes - good proper name.

jellybeans · 08/07/2009 10:38

I think it is too old lady but not as bad as some of the other ones.

hatwoman · 07/07/2009 20:24

I know one - and I think it's lovely. Elseba is even better imo - esp with a family link - and you could use Elsie as an abbreviation

random · 07/07/2009 20:18

Its awful...sorry

loobylu3 · 07/07/2009 20:13

It's lovely- go for it!

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2009 18:31

You have to have at least one dissenter. The only Elsie I know IRL is my octagenarian mother (named after her aunt). She hates her name. Her middle name was even worse though....never call your child after its aunts!

frazzledgirl · 07/07/2009 18:19

My friend's DD is Elsie. I wasn't sure when first introduced, but Elsie is so gorgeous and sweet and funny that I'm completely converted

Hadn't thought of Elsa as a formal version, but that's lovely too.

giraffescantdancethetango · 07/07/2009 01:23

I think its pretty

drpepper · 07/07/2009 01:20

thanks everyone for your input not a bad word said so i am very pleased ! seems that its getting quite common with a lot of ppl saying they know new elsies but doesn't bother me too much and i think its sounds nice with my dds name phoebe ! phoebe and elsie lovely ! xxx

It's a great name , I know a new baby Elsie.

WinkyWinkola · 06/07/2009 13:20

Elsie is lovely.

fruitstick · 06/07/2009 13:17

I love it and it was going to be both of our DS' name if they were girls.

Actually, my only regret in having 2 lovely boys is that I never got to use it.

grubbywitch · 06/07/2009 13:14

Really love it.

Pingpong · 06/07/2009 13:12

I like it and Elsa too

Firawla · 06/07/2009 13:03

Alot of the "old" names are being used these days,I think Elsie is nice and would be fine.

MummyElk · 06/07/2009 12:15

fucksticks · 06/07/2009 12:09

Love it. much nicer than a lot of the other old names imo

preggersplayspop · 06/07/2009 12:06

I also like Elsa shortened to Elsie, and I like it even more knowing it has a family connection (I'm like that, me).

jeee · 06/07/2009 11:39

Like the name - but it does sound like someone from the Chalet School - which may or may not be a good thing.

seeker · 06/07/2009 11:38

I like it too but had you thought about Elsa shortened to Elsie? It's just a bit more formal sounding in case she needs it when she's grown up.

tothesea · 06/07/2009 11:37

I love it too! Also really like Elsa. If I ever have a little girl [hopeful emoticon] she will either be Elsa or Sylvie.

SparkyMalarky · 06/07/2009 11:36

Love it
