I am leaving out all of the typical names that I know most of you will think are ok.
what do you think of these more unusual names?

Roman
Yves
Orren
Ivan
Mannix
Nelson (but call him Sonny)

We have a double barreled last name, first name two syllables beginning with P, second name one syllable beginning with B.

Roman - nice
Yves - like it but only if you have French connections
Orren - not keen sorry
Ivan - OK
Mannix - don't like it sorry
Nelson - like Sonny but not Nelson

gibbberish · 03/07/2009 19:53

Like Roman the most, probably because I know someone with a little boy called this and it has grown on me.

Yves sounds more like a girl's name. Or reminds me of perfume.

Orren, not too bad.

Ivan, no reminds me of Ivan the Terrible

Mannix - sorry no, Isle of Man springs to mind

Nelson, just not keen.

seeker · 03/07/2009 19:49

Sonny is a lovely name for a baby or a toddler. It would be hell on earth for a shift supervisor, or a foreman. "Fred - would you move those pallets?" "Right you are, Sonny" Cue much giggling. Don't do it.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/07/2009 19:44

Ivan and Nelson are both nice, although I prefer just Sonny. It's a lovely name.

Fimbo · 03/07/2009 19:38

Oops Ivan of course

MrsBadger · 03/07/2009 19:35

Ivan is passable

Mannix is dreadful

the rest I think he could squeak by with by sheer force of personality if he was at Bedales or Eton

Fimbo · 03/07/2009 19:31

From that list, Evan is just about acceptable to me. But hey it's your baby your choice, not mine.

sockmonster · 03/07/2009 19:28

haha

MrsMattie · 03/07/2009 19:27

Nelson nn Sonny was on our boy's list. I like it.

The rest - bleurgh.

Yves conjures up images of gay designer type a la Bruno.

seeker · 03/07/2009 19:26

The sound like Gladiators, sorry!

sockmonster · 03/07/2009 19:25

I agree with overmydeadbody- Orson? Like Orren and Sonny combined?

sockmonster · 03/07/2009 19:23

Roman- yes, but polanski did bad bad things with 13 year old girls. However I do like it. Is Rowan a boy's name, kind of similar?

Yves- NO! He will be called Eve and laughed at by his chums. Unless you live in a french village this will not work

Orren- orange???

Ivan- Cameron, nah

Mannix- Manic

Nelson (but call him Sonny)- admiral nelson shot in battle of trafalgar. Not bad, best of the bunch I have to say.

Jackson- I like this a lot actually but I think it will be a top 10 name in the US at least by the end of 09 and it will be assumed it is en homage to michael

Sorry not too positive! I like Nelson and Roman and Jackson I think, how about just 'Sonny'?

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 18:08

am sure there are loads of names that would give you the nn Sonny

what about Corran?

oliverboliverbutt · 03/07/2009 17:58

'although people will think it's a tribute...'

OMG we can't have that!

OP posts:
oliverboliverbutt · 03/07/2009 17:56

it's a boy. If it was girl everything would be just fine.
We are having a bit of trouble with this one since we've already used our very favorite boys name on my son!

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 03/07/2009 17:56

Jackson great - although people will think it's a tribute...

hunkermunker · 03/07/2009 17:56

Is your surname Parker-Bowles?

Yves would get mistaken for a girl going on sound, though I do like it.

Roman - do you have unfortunate noses in your family?

Orren - "Warren? Eh?"

Ivan - quite like this.

Mannix - "like the Street Preachers"?

Nelson - no. Just no.

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 17:54

I don't know any Jack's anymore - don't let the popularity charts put you off, I chose DD1's name and everytime its mentioned on here people go on about how overused it is - I haven't met another one yet however we chose something a little different for DD2 and I know of 4 of them

is it definately a boy or do you have some girls options too?

cece · 03/07/2009 17:53

Sorry but I don't like any of them.

oliverboliverbutt · 03/07/2009 17:48

I don't really like Nelson either, but love Sonny.
Jackson was our choice for our first, she turned out to be a girl. So could use that but don't like that Jack is the most popular name.

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 17:42

hi OMDB

Overmydeadbody · 03/07/2009 17:41

I don't like Roman, Saxon much nicer

Yves how is that pronounced?

Orren I don't like.

Ivan and Mannix I don't like. Especially not Mannix. Think about it. It sounds like Manics.

Sonny is a lovely name I tinhk, nut Nelson not to my taste.

Sorry!

How about Orson?

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 17:41

Samson or Jackson nn Sonny?

dizzydixies · 03/07/2009 17:40

no problem, I have 3 with full names & short versions!
