I am struggling to find a boys name that is the "one". I like unique names but also names that will grow with them, quite a difficult combo. I like the sound of Brakkai and Indio but would like to test them out before I actually name the baby. Any comments welcome.

Dekel

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/07/2009 10:51

Olo - I don't like that, what about Iolo (it's a Welsh name).

Don't like Indio either - what about Inigo, it's a lovely name IMO - it's Spanish or Basque I think.

Brakkai - nope.

Thing is I really don't like randomly made up names really, like proper names.

I know what you mean about wanting something different, but the names you've suggested are just that bit too unusual. Your other childrens names are beautiful, and unusual enough to be different in your area, but not too unusual to cause a stir. Some of the others that have been suggested are worth considering

nomorecake · 03/07/2009 10:35

what do your other children like? may be you could have a family vote?

nomorecake · 03/07/2009 10:34

out of brakkai and indio, i prefer indio.
you maybe better off looking into other cultures for the more unusal type of names.

but saying that i like these:
silver
Austin
bailey
lucien
kyle
guy
hugo
niall

goodluck!

I love your childrens' names. And Corey is a favourite of mine ... especially after seeing a huge, gorgeous aussie lifeguard by that name doing the Iron Man in the World Lifeguard Championships .

harlok · 03/07/2009 09:38

corey is not american its celtic although it is widely used now in the u.s. however 14 years ago wasn't quite so popular. my childrens other names are very unusual to the area i live in. this is what i am trying to obtain really. i always imagine what it would be like to name my child something quite whacky during pregnancy, must be hormones? but as soon as they arrive as you can see it never happens. in reality i know that i'd never really use them i just thought it would be fun to see strangers reponses, although it's mostly been far from fun!

How about Oak or Lex?

MadameCastafiore · 03/07/2009 08:40

And your other kids names aren't unusual at all - pretty normal middle class names IMO. Well except Corey which is American isn't it so there will be about another billion of them on the planet!

MadameCastafiore · 03/07/2009 08:36

Or Sea Lion!

Why would you want to saddle your kid with a name everyone will ask hin to repeat or spell?

Why does it have to be unusual or not used - everyone's name is used by someone else no matter how stupid it is and that is my take on what you are trying to do STUPID!

SarahL2 · 03/07/2009 08:31

I don't like Ceawlin by the way - he'd get called 'Ceiling' at school

SarahL2 · 03/07/2009 08:26

My friend has a Harlan - she also has a Torin, it's an Irish name and I have never met another one...

shootfromthehip · 03/07/2009 08:19

Moiye? I think it's a Native American Indian name for a river somewhere- would shorten to 'mo' nicely.

zeke · 03/07/2009 08:16

www.regia.org/members/names.htm

It is a saxon name - see above list.

zeke · 03/07/2009 08:12

Ceawlin is pronounced see-lin, I think! The lady at Longleat told me at the weekend but...It is the name of the Marquess of Bath's 34 yr old son.

ihavenewsockson · 02/07/2009 23:52

thanks TM.
That sounds lovely.

MrsTittleMouse · 02/07/2009 23:50

Her-my-on-ee

ihavenewsockson · 02/07/2009 23:47

can i just ask how hermione is pronounced?
in my head it's always hermy-1.

i'm dreading meeting one in case i make a tit out of myself.

MangoJuggler · 02/07/2009 23:44

Soupy

Aerauoy

Tunod

wook · 02/07/2009 23:40

I think Indio is OK, quite nice actually. Can imagine quite a cool kid. But isn't it Robert Downey Jnr's son's name?
Brakkai is yuk though, sorry.

saintmaybe · 02/07/2009 23:34

Ren? Ilove Ren

SoupDragon · 02/07/2009 23:06

"no soupdragon i reside here on earth threfor kevin and brian are of no use to me. I mean really you must have pulled all the stops out for those!(hmm)"

WTF? You reside on earth yet you are considering dreadful made up names for your child?

harlok · 02/07/2009 22:47

I agree chunkamatic i just have to convince DH on these other possibilities.

my ds's are called Sven, Yannic and Flynn....and I have not met any other Sven's over here, have met one little Janik (polish boy) and know of one other Flynn (online friend)...

Chunkamatic · 02/07/2009 22:43

I love Asa, is on my list for DC2. I think it is reasonable unusual without being whoah crazy! Sits really well with your other DC's names too...
