I am struggling to find a boys name that is the "one". I like unique names but also names that will grow with them, quite a difficult combo. I like the sound of Brakkai and Indio but would like to test them out before I actually name the baby. Any comments welcome.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

"But I do find all the 'ho, ho, let's add some words that would be ridiculous names' games a bit ."

Don't play then. It gives some people some mild amusement - obviously it doesn't amuse you. Find another game to play!

Umlellala · 06/07/2009 10:56

Oh I can easily take the ribbing about my children's unusual names. And I'm sure they will be resilient enough to cope too (in a multicultural classroom where no-one else really gives a shit anyway).

But I do find all the 'ho, ho, let's add some words that would be ridiculous names' games a bit . We get it, any name that is mispelt/modern/ hippy/chavvy/pretentious /unknown to you makes you spill your cocoa. Why do you care so much?

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/07/2009 09:00

I went to school with a Geronimo. He was gorgeous. As such nobody took the piss out of his name, as they all wanted to snog him be his friend.

He was called Gerry for short.

skihorse · 06/07/2009 08:35

But so what if they're rubbished? As seeker so rightly points out - if a bunch of "old enough to know better" women are taking the piss - heaven help little Tankard when he hits 13 and rolls up at the local comp!

If you don't want people to rip the piss out of what you know are dodgy names, and hence you parade them here for approval - - don't fecking post them!

fishie · 05/07/2009 22:17

yes they did seeker. twice.

missmem · 05/07/2009 22:13

Both are really awful!

seeker · 05/07/2009 21:59

But I don't think anyone rubbished any real names did they? Honestly, is there anyone called Tankard?

fishie · 05/07/2009 21:57

oh come on this is pathetic. and of course it is really nasty if you see a bunch of people (who you might even respect or like a bit) rubbishing your child's name.

seeker · 05/07/2009 21:51

"The problem is lockets- it just gets nasty, doesn't it"

I really don't think it's nasty - there isn't, surely, a mumsnetter with children called Scrofulo, Palimpsest and Lexicon?

And if anyone is thinking of using those names, the gentle teasing they got on here would be nothing compared to what they would get in real life - so this thread could serve useful warning function!

EachPeachPearMum · 05/07/2009 20:17

maybe start a new thread with some criteria sumatra?
helps if people know what your other dc are called too, to judge your taste...

sumatra · 05/07/2009 20:05

hi i'm struggling for a boys name,im very fussy&if i hear it too often i go off the name, help! any ideas?

sumatra · 05/07/2009 19:54

not my cuppa tea but each to their own,my first post as i am new to all of this!
I am also stuggling for a boys name! help!

EachPeachPearMum · 05/07/2009 19:50

The problem is lockets- it just gets nasty, doesn't it...
same poster who does it about your DS' name got her comeuppance on a baby names thread where she was slagging off another name, and someone ended up outing her and her children's names, didn't they?
A couple of silly posts are great- a joke, a good laugh, but this has gone a little too far really.
I obviously have my grumpy pants on today, as none of my childrens' rather numerous names have been mentioned

Django Reinhardt is not just 'some guitarist' ... he is one of the greatest ever guitarists.

I do think some people have taken it a little too far on this thread though, tbh.

BALD- you usually pull people up when they're being unkind, not join in.

And as I said- there IS a mner with a son named Geronimo

skihorse · 05/07/2009 19:19

I see D'Artagnan was over at worst baby names a few times, but to be really "original" - what about Dogtanion?

mandylifeboats · 05/07/2009 19:10

What about Skyler? (Sky for short. Think the original sur/name was Schuyler)

It's my ds's name and we really like it, though is pretty unusual for a boy, here in UK.

lottiejenkins · 05/07/2009 12:30

Siobhan from Bananrama and Dave Stewarts son is named Django. Think it is after some guitarist??
