Yes.

I actually think her mum regrets her choice.

My own name has a "t" in the middle which is frequently dropped and makes my name sound really awful. My mother regrets calling me it for this reason.

Mammina · 30/06/2009 14:44

I was just thinking, for Aneira, if potential DD would find it a PITA she could go by Annie as a NN?

OP posts:
Mammina · 30/06/2009 14:43

does she hate her name for that reason fimbo?

I know a girl of 12 called Aneira, she gets very upset as people either can't say her name or spell it wrongly.

Mammina · 30/06/2009 14:30

DH has now vetoed Greta as he says it's too harsh sounding

Hi !!

I Like Greta, very pretty. In fact the more I look at it, the more I love it!!

I'm thinking that as you had to put how to pronounce the others may have indicate problems with others pronouncing and spelling the name later in life - ie register at school, every time they are asked their name they'll have to say "Spelt ....."

I'd go with Greta!!

janeite · 29/06/2009 21:53

Don't like any of them sorry but Greta is better (!) than the others.

Cassie is nice.
Iona - don't like it personally but at least it looks real.
Amira
Eloise

Love Greta.

SoupDragon · 29/06/2009 21:13

Eiliona.

Really don't like Greta, Casia will always be mispronounced (unless you are somewhere the name is usual), Aneira... no, just don't like it.

LetThemEatCake · 29/06/2009 21:11

i know a Casia (aged 4? 5?) and she is always called Casia. No probs re pronunciation that I'm aware of, and it's a topic that her mum and I have discussed as both our children have 'unusual' names.

Greta sounds a bit harsh, I think. The other 2 are pretty.

In any case, pronunciation issues aren't the end of the world - nor are you exempted from them by having a 'common' name. I'm a Sarah but still get called Sara all the time!!

thisisyesterday · 29/06/2009 20:48

love Greta and Aneira

barnsleybelle · 29/06/2009 20:47

Only like Greta from your list, sorry.

loobylu3 · 29/06/2009 20:44

Prefer Cassia to Casia as this reminds me of Casio. It isn't made up- I've come across it before.

I like Eliana but not Eiliona.
Greta is okay.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 29/06/2009 19:52

The hills are alive ............

I like Greta.

LittleMissWorryHead · 29/06/2009 19:49

Went to write Greta and wrote Great!

Greta is cool....

TabithaTwitchet · 29/06/2009 18:19

Well it is spelt like Daniela, but I would personally say it An-YE-la rather than ANnie-ella.

hocuspontas · 29/06/2009 18:09

and Kurt and Brigitta....

Tillyscoutsmum · 29/06/2009 18:08

Greta is lovely...

Not keen on the pronunciation of Casia but like Cassia or Cassie

Don't like the others - sorry

Mammina · 29/06/2009 18:07

Although I like the sound of Aniela, it's a bit like Daniella without the D sin't it??

I love Anissa but a friend has called her daughter this so I can't really

OP posts:
boodleboot · 29/06/2009 18:04

or Anissa....i love that. I also like Dasha and Liesl...

TabithaTwitchet · 29/06/2009 18:00

I really like Greta. And I also think Casia is nice (although everyone I've known with that name spelt it with a K - Kasia)
I don't really like the other two (sorry), how about Aniela? A bit similar to the last 2, and v nice IMO.

Mammina · 29/06/2009 18:00

it has hasn't it boodle!! it's ok I can take it, although Casia is definitely off the list after the Loyd Grossman comment!

OP posts:
boodleboot · 29/06/2009 17:55

crikey, sorry your list has been slated quite so viciously OP...

i like Casia pronounced Casha but am wondering if it would ever be pronounced that way....is there another way of spelling it?

MrsBadger · 29/06/2009 17:51

Aneira sounds like an attempt to feminise the Welsh boys' name Aneurin

if they're not made up they look it
