I live in Canada and Alta is the abbreviated form of Alberta here.

Christiana congrats on the name choice it is lovely and just ignore darling mother she will get over it, we aren't telling the MIL any name choices as she will probably be horrified lol

she was baffled that we liked william if DD1 had been a boy!!! odd so not sure how Florence or hermione would go down...LOL

enjoy little ruby lucia
xx

crumpette · 08/07/2009 18:56

Yes doesn't the santa lucia girl chosen have to be the prettiest?
I like its history and it's a very international name, as is Ruby- I have known Rubys/Rubis in India, Spain, Mexico, Italy and one who was half-dutch.

Excellent taste christiana !!

Christiana I think that name is beautiful, my DD was Lucia (pronounced loo-see-a) and I love the name Ruby, really cute and sparky. Lucia means 'bringer of light' which I think is lovely.

Congratulations, excellent choice

Congratulations, christiana!
Ruby Lucia is lovely, and yes I agree your Mum has already done enough where names are concerned!!
I am chuckling at Ruby's first word...directed at your mum..."Dave!"

macherie I am somewhat at your experience with names rudeness!
What on earth were they thinking?

Some people!!

MrsHappy · 07/07/2009 20:27

LOL at your mum's comments.
Just train Ruby to call her granny 'Bernard' or something if granny persists in calling her 'Lucia'.
And I reckon Ruby is far easier to spell than Astrid would have been!

I think Ruby Lucia is a really nice choice.

RorysRacingMa · 07/07/2009 19:54

Good choice. Can't see how Ruby is hard to spell tho .

Have lots of happy times with her.

poshtottie · 07/07/2009 18:29

I think they are both lovely names.

I saw a girl in the paper the other day called Rebel-Angel

Phoenix · 07/07/2009 18:07

At your mum Christiana. Ruby Lucia is a lovely name

i think you mum is pretty brave airing that opinion especially as you are having to find another name as she gave your one away.....mums, drive you nuts quicker than any thing.

Ruby is a lovely name and i love Lucia pronounced Loo see ah.

congrats again.

macherie · 07/07/2009 11:49

Christiana, DD is Phoebe Isabella - I LOVE her name

We don't live in the UK so don't have any problems meeting lots of other phoebes, in fact we've only met one, and dd is 5 now!

nothing wrong with Ruby Lucia (although I personally prefer my suggestions ) and your mother has bats in her head for thinking it would be hard to spell! LOTS of children start by writing b and r backwards, they soon learn!
Actually, Rudy is quite a pretty name too... wasn't one of the Cosby children called that in the Cosby Show?

Ruby Lucia is beautiful, ignore your mother.

We named dd as soon as she was born, my mum and two of my aunts wouldn't stop going on about how they didn't like her name - she was already registered fgs.

Then when dd was about 2 weeks old my best friend rang to read out a list of girls names we might like!

What you call your child is nobody elses concern.

Close - it's Downes.
So Neil, Stan and Ida are out too

thell · 04/07/2009 20:29

Coffeecups, is your surname Dover

coffeecups · 04/07/2009 14:29

My daughter's friend suggested sparkleworks for a girl. I honestly don't mind if you steal it from me.

Or Ben for a boy. With the surname it just doesn't work.
