Someone just told me this was on their shortlist. I love it, I want it...

Can't can I?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nevergoogledragonbutter · 26/06/2009 17:15

Ooops, posted this first in entirely the wrong thread. (out of practise )

You know I'm not much of a beer drinker, but i've been giving it some thought.

Miller and Bud aren't bad names.
DS2 is Sol.
(not actually named after the beer, but probably still my favourite beer).

If i ever have more children i'll be careful to avoid the names Miller, Bud and Stella though.

pranma · 26/06/2009 15:07

I think its lovely and Velvet Brown is quite a role model[Wasn't the horse called Pie?]

hobbgoblin · 26/06/2009 14:56

I may have to face that none of my choices will meet with general mnet approval.

nevergoogled, you didn't call him Stella did you?!

Gattina83 · 25/06/2009 22:21

Even if you wouldn't feel self concious in the supermarket, she might. Do cravings for weird names come with pregnancy like cravings for weird food??

littlelamb · 25/06/2009 20:11

Little baby Karlsberg?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/06/2009 20:09

I can't complain. DS2 is names after a beer.

domesticslattern · 25/06/2009 20:07

Nooooo it is a kind of toilet paper, isn't it?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/06/2009 20:03

So we know 3 Velvets, all 4 years old.

What happened in 2004/5 to create a Velvet boom?

womma · 25/06/2009 12:15

It's way too porny! And a bit wanky.

LilRedWG · 25/06/2009 11:39

Hmmm - nice name for a horse. Sorry.

slyandgobbo · 25/06/2009 11:38

I have met a 4 y/o Velvet with beautiful red hair and thought the name really suited her. Even though I might have thought it a bit porno had I considered the name in a vacuum, as it were...

LaDiDaDi · 25/06/2009 11:34

I liked it in a moment of madness when pregnant with dd.

I would probably think it was nice if I met a child called Velvet but I just don't think I could do it in rl.

Fimbo · 25/06/2009 11:12

Lovely please do use it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 25/06/2009 11:10

What about Jacquard for a boy?

No, it's a silly, silly name. And just because Liz Taylor played someone called Velvet in a film from the 50s does not make it acceptable

Anyway, it'll get called Val for short. That's not something you would wish on a child.

Nancy66 · 25/06/2009 11:06

it's awful please don't inflict that on a child. Very porn star.

MamaLazarou · 25/06/2009 09:54

Mandy Rice-Davies called herself Velvet for a while before deciding on Mandy (her real name was Marilyn).

sobloodystupid · 25/06/2009 09:05

it makes me think of vulva , gulp!

sobloodystupid · 25/06/2009 09:05

stroppyknickers, its v e l v e n. Don't know where she got it from but can't condemn as have unusual (non fabric) name for my dd

pointydog · 24/06/2009 22:04

A bit perverse for a girl's name.

happyjules · 24/06/2009 22:00

Love it.

Lissya · 24/06/2009 21:31

Hey! I only pressed that button once...

Lissya · 24/06/2009 21:30

You'd have to have an awful lot of charm, arrogance and beauty in equal measures to pull off a name like Velvet, I think.

DebiNewberry · 24/06/2009 21:24

Oh I like it... it's pretty.
