Neila? I dont want to know whether you like the name or not, just how you would pronounce it...a mate said they would say: Nay-la

Kneeler

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 14:42

little abc, i dont have any A sounds at the end of siblings names...but the syllables is right ;) thanks. I think it would go nicely too. I am just wary of giving a name that will always have to be explained. I think the majority would be same as you, would think neil then add the a.

I went to school with a Leila who was Leela.

SoupDragon · 22/06/2009 12:42

Neela

littleabc · 22/06/2009 12:38

My brain saw "Neil" and added an a so pronounced it neelah.

Saw a post from you on another board and think this name would sound good with its sibling's name if you choose it (same syllables, same rythmn, same "a" sound at end). Although you didn't ask me for that opinion. .

nee lah

seeker · 22/06/2009 11:40

Fascinated at the thought of a female form of Maxwell - brain going into overdrive.....!

booboobeedoo · 22/06/2009 11:08

I used to work with a Neila - she pronounced it Nee-lah.

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 11:06

He did. Maxwell, my name is a form of it so it couldnt be used again. Well i wouldnt want it to.

This is my last baby, i already have two girls and boy. For some reason i suspect this one will be a girl, but if it is a boy it will be neil. It is also definately my last baby as hubby is going to be neautered after it arrives

Why not save Neil for a boy? Or did your father have a second name?

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:44

bizarre isnt it. I can understand why people would say neil, but still nayla. I will have to think hard about it, dont really want to saddle my child with a name people dont know how to spell.

Nee-la

seeker · 22/06/2009 10:37

No - I'd pronounce Neil as Neel - but Neila as Nayla. Simply because the only name I can think of like it is Leila - which IS Layla! If you see what I mean!

thedolly · 22/06/2009 10:32

'Nee-la' but I had to think about it.

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:30

So would you pronounce neil as nail?

OP posts:
TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 22/06/2009 10:29

Nay-la

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 22/06/2009 10:28

Neila like Leila.

seeker · 22/06/2009 10:26

I'd say Nay-la because of Leila.

annasmami · 22/06/2009 10:21

In German -ei- is pronounced -ay-, so perhaps the same is the case in other languages. In that case Neila or Leila are pronouced Nayla or Layla.

MamaLazarou · 22/06/2009 10:19

Leila?

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:16

Rein? Reign? Thats all I can think of really. Feign? Funny one isnt it.

OP posts:
Tambajam · 22/06/2009 10:13

I'd say Neila - rhymes with Sheila. I can't think of a word where ei makes an ay sound. Am I being very dim?

KnickKnack · 22/06/2009 10:07

I'd say nee-la too

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:04

Neil was my dads name, i am considering calling my baby Neila if it is a girl. Wasnt keen if the majority would say nay-lah.

OP posts:
makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:03

Phew, thats how I would pronounce it too. Mate said it would be nay-la because 'ei' makes an 'ay' sound. Could kind of see her point, but would still say neel-a. Cheers.
