My DD, aged 6, is called Marbella. Do you think it's chav to name DC after places?

If not, what place names do you like as names for DC?

I used to live in Newcastle (the one upon Tyne) and quite fancied Jesmond and Jarrow for twins.

My middle name is Liguanea (Li-ga-nee), after where my dad used to live in Jamaica.

nooka · 28/06/2009 04:11

I met a little girl called America once. It's the only name when I have had to really grit my teeth and try and say something positive.

Personally I prefer giving children real names, not making something up on the spur of the moment.

thell · 28/06/2009 02:02

or Croydon?

thell · 28/06/2009 02:01

DD would have been called Lewisham a la Beckhams.
Much better boy's name.

at Bexley!
How about Bromley?

spiderlight · 26/06/2009 20:52

I knew a Capri, named because she was conceived there. She was born shortly before the Ford Capri came out. Poor girl.

Gattina83 · 25/06/2009 20:29

India, Florence, Sienna all nice places and make nice names, Marbella - not such a nice place and not so nice for a name. Saying that I quite like Preston for a name!
Talking of diseases i always think Valeria sounds like malaria and Ruby Ella like rubella! haa!

Rafi · 25/06/2009 19:56

How about twins called East & West Dulwich?

Cicatrice · 19/06/2009 22:23

Keith is a town. And there's loads of them.

pranma · 19/06/2009 20:12

Beverley
Chelsea
Paris etc

campion · 19/06/2009 17:56

missmem - Chad is a saint's name and perfectly suitable if you're white ( and a boy).

SomeGuy · 19/06/2009 17:35

OP has not tried hard enough.

Chavvier names:

Boys:
Basildon
Bexley
Benidorm
Torremolinos
Fucking (Austria)
Dildo (Canada)

Girls:
Lesbos
Asda (not strictly speaking a place but close enough)

FanjolinaJolie · 19/06/2009 17:23

My little dd would then be Swindon-alinaJolie.

Just rolls of the tongue, dunnit?

MamaLazarou · 19/06/2009 15:55

Oops, sorry - I see someone else has already asked. And from your 'Chihuahua' comment, I deduce that you are definitely on a wind-up.

MamaLazarou · 19/06/2009 15:53

Are the 'L's pronounced in Marbella, or is it Mar-baya?

I am sure you are joking, in any case.

Lotster · 19/06/2009 13:17

Username taken - Westward Ho! wouldn't be ideal for a girl, nobody wants to be called a ho....

bleh · 19/06/2009 12:29

One of my DNephew's would be Mpumalanga, going by the Beckham's logic.

scottishmummy · 19/06/2009 12:27

classy i think frou-frou over priced deli.lil overpriced boutiques,wags

so not necesarily desirable

ScummyMummy · 19/06/2009 12:24

Do not fear, SM, I am just wittering mindlessly. I don't even know what classy means or whether it's something I would value in an area, tbh.

scottishmummy · 19/06/2009 12:21

not slagging SE15 off but classy dont spring to mind when i think peckham

i do think

urban
busy
pacey

like all places has its good and bad points

ScummyMummy · 19/06/2009 12:17

Peckham SE15 is quite classy enough for everyday use, thank you very much.

LovingtheSilverFox · 19/06/2009 12:11

I know a Rimini, although I don't know if that's how she spells it. My uncle lives in Corpusty, I think that would be nice !

Bettymum · 19/06/2009 12:09

DH wanted to call our DD (at the time she was still a bump) Columbia. It actually sounded really quite good with our surname and I was very tempted...

missmem · 19/06/2009 11:03

Chihuahua is just wrong! What is wrong with you!

AnarchyAunt · 19/06/2009 09:50

Chihuahua

Right...

usernametaken · 19/06/2009 09:46
