I already have a Charlotte and an Eliza and expecting DD3 in August. I love Harriet but my husband is concerned it is too similar sounding to Charlotte. Please give me your opinion. Thanks heaps.

I think they go together really nicely and both sound right with Eliza, but I am a Charlotte with a sister Harriet. Neither of us like the abbreviations Lottie or Hattie and no one dares call us by those names, apart from to wind us up.

Excellent choices.

all 3 were on our shortlist - Harriet won out in the end! Lovely combination IMO

peppapig3 · 16/06/2009 11:40

Not too similar at all. Eliza and Charlotte are gorgeous and Harriet is nice too and goes v well.

mumoz · 16/06/2009 01:46

Oh thank you all so so much. I will definitely go with Harriet as I have always loved it. I was starting to be swayed by DH and think that the similar 't' sound ending would be a bit much, but now thanks to all of your comments I'm just going to go with it!

great names, not too similar, v nice together

thirtysomething · 15/06/2009 21:41

beautiful names, all of them, and they all go well together. I know two Harriets and they are both gorgeous little girls, very feisty and very bright. It's a timeless, classic name too, with loads of possible abbreviations.

alibubbles · 15/06/2009 21:39

DD is Harriet Sophie Charlotte, she is always called harriet, never ever been called Hattie or Harry!

Rolf · 15/06/2009 21:18

All lovely names and go together very well. I have a Harriet (Hattie)

nymphadora · 15/06/2009 20:27

I have both

We don't know any other Harriets!

Reality - do you know me?

HerHonesty · 15/06/2009 20:22

very much of the same ilk. depends if you are very posh or not.

eandh · 15/06/2009 20:20

my dd2 was going to be Charlotte but we went with Hattie (dh wasnt keen on Harriet but loved Hattie) I think they go really well together especially with Eliza

Servalan · 15/06/2009 20:18

I don't think they sound too similar at all - wouldn't even have crossed my mind.

Love, love, love the name Harriet btw

Firawla · 15/06/2009 20:18

no they are fine together

bodiddly · 15/06/2009 20:15

I don't think they are too similar in their full form but if they are shortened to Hattie and Lottie then it may get a little more confusing!

PlentyOToole · 15/06/2009 20:12

nope not similar.
charlie and Harrie.
Beautiful, one is my sister's name and the other is one I wanted for my dd.

janeite · 15/06/2009 20:10

Lovely. I wanted a Harriet (Hattie) after 'Tom's Midnight Garden' but dp wouldn't have it. It goes beautifully with the other names.

screamingabdab · 15/06/2009 20:06

I think it is a bit too similar in that if you bellowed one up the stairs they might be a bit confused, as they both end in a "t" sound.

(That is my patented "bellowing-up-the-stairs" test)

campion · 15/06/2009 17:58

They do tend to get called Hattie when they're older which isn't quite so lovely, but otherwise I think it's a nice name and goes well with Charlotte. And I don't think they're too similar.

TwoSunnyDays · 15/06/2009 13:07

I think they go well and dont sound too similar.

EyeballshasManBoobs · 15/06/2009 11:28

I have a Harriet, it's a lovely name and not too similar. Go for it

stripeypineapple · 15/06/2009 11:26

I think they are lovely. Very trad, very pretty and fit very nicely with Eliza.

Excellent choices all three.

abraid · 15/06/2009 11:23

Just fine, I think.

I like Harriet. Actually, I like Juliet, too.

MaggieBee · 15/06/2009 11:16

That's not a big deal at all, but Harriet isn't a nice name imo. What about Juliet?
Much nicer.

dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 10:09

lovely and not too similar at all, I see why you would think that with the T sound but with Eliza in the middle its just fine

congrats on your 3 girls, its fab fun
