I like Harry but...

...worry it's a bit too cheeky chappy if you become an earnest or serious teenager/adult. What do you think?

Really struggling on boys' names. Don't really like any of them and picking holes in the ones i do quite like.

Others currently on the list

Samuel/Sam
Johnny
Ned/Edward

Still waiting for lightning to strike though.

Hmm I have to break the trend of 'I know a Harry who isn't a cheeky chappy' replies.

I have a Harry who is most definatly a cheeky chappy, with a very individual personality but that is what everyone always loves about him

lechatnoir · 16/06/2009 22:06

Poppysweetie - not sure it can get much more popular can it

poppysweetie · 16/06/2009 19:39

I love Harry but it will be extra popular hasnt a celeb just named their son Harry?

lechatnoir · 16/06/2009 13:24

I have a Harry who is 3 so yes a cheeky chappie but named after his grandfather who was a very earnest professor so no, I think it's the person not the name that counts.

FWIW, I like Harry as a name in its own right - I'm just not keen on Harrison & never really 'got' the name a child Henry (which is a lovely name) then change it to Harry and Harold just seems wrong to me

Harry is on our list too, as is Sam! We have the same doubts about choosing Harry, but then he keeps coming back to us..which might be a sign it's right?! we also have Ethan, and Charlie if our baby is a boy! x x

popsycal · 13/06/2009 20:21

Harry is a fabulous name choice

mumoverseas · 13/06/2009 20:19

agree with Haribosmummy, Harrison is a gorgeous name, but then I'm a little bit biased

Merle · 13/06/2009 07:47

I like the name Harry and I don't think it is in the least bit 'cheeky chappy' perhaps because it is so popular. The people I know who name their sons Harry seem to be quite conventional and so it seems that Harrys now are often quiet lads, who are never cheeky.

nappyaddict · 12/06/2009 21:53

Prefer Teddy to Ted.

barnsleybelle · 12/06/2009 20:25

Love Harry.

muggglewump · 12/06/2009 20:13

What about Henry with Harry as an everyday name?
I'm not so keen on Johnny as a name alone but I like Jonathan.
I like Edward too and then you can use Ned but future DS can have a choice of other shortenings?

alittleteapot · 12/06/2009 20:08

I don't like Ed or Eddie though. Ted's nice as well as Ned, I think.

Maybe Sam...

Why are names so hard?

Edward is lovely. I don't see the need for a nickname though.

Thunderduck · 12/06/2009 19:45

Oh god not Ned please. It's awful.

It makes me think of Ned Flanders from The Simpsons. And it's a Scottish word for a thug/chav.

mrsrawlinson · 12/06/2009 19:26

Edward is lovely. I sort of wish we hadn't wasted it as a middle name for DS1 now!

Pollyanna · 12/06/2009 19:09

I have an Edward, Ned for short. Its a lovely name I think.

nappyaddict · 12/06/2009 19:02

Sorry I meant to say for the others aswell Ned short for all those too.

alittleteapot · 12/06/2009 16:25

No, it'll be straight Harry or not Harry at all. And although I like Edward I don't like Ed so not keen on other Ed names! Sorry, contrary!

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 12/06/2009 16:06

Or Edgar/Edwin/Edbert/Edison

nappyaddict · 12/06/2009 16:04

How about Ned short for Edmund?

Haribosmummy · 12/06/2009 15:59

What about HARRISON as a more formal alternative?

alittleteapot · 12/06/2009 15:57

See, don't like Harold or Henry at all...
