Long story but I'd really like to find the perfect girl's name that begins with 'L', the only ones out are Lucy/Lucia/Luciana. I'd be interested to have some of your fab suggestions please.

Thanks

I love L names! My faves are:

Laura (my name!)
Lola
Lyra
Lila/Lyla
Leila
Lorelai

And I don't think I can get away with any of them cos they're too similar to my name!

Sunshinemummy · 21/05/2009 16:30

Sorry to hear about your DD Sockmonster.

Friend of a friend has a daughter called Louie which I think is lovely.

sockmonster · 21/05/2009 16:21

Hello everyone thought I'd come back and have a peek at your suggestions. Thanks for all of them. Not sure what the sex is of dc2, to be honest, but am 'feeling' girl at the moment. Anyway, your suggestions are fantastic.

I am sort of leaning towards either an L name, like Laura, Louisa or Liliana, or a name that is sort-of similar in sound, like Alicia, Sofia, Maria.... (prefer Lucia though!! )

it's probably a boy anyway!

So sorry to hear about your daughter.

Lark is lovely, chamomile.

I know you said an L, but what about-

Dulcia, pronounced in the same way (dul SEE ah), meaning 'sweet'.

I knew a german girl called-

Liv, pronounced as leaf. It means 'life'.

Lucette or Lucetta which mean 'little light' (I'm sure you know already that Lucia means 'light').

Bobblebuddy · 20/05/2009 09:58

Yes, Louisa is gorgeous and echoes your dd's name nicely.

I am so sorry to hear your story

daisy99divine · 20/05/2009 01:14

Sorry to hear about your dd

I know how you mean about wanting to call the next one the same - it was quite normal practice in Victorian times (I have found several examples in my family tree) but not the done thing these days.

How about Luisa (the spanish spelling)?

thumbwitch · 17/05/2009 12:39

so for you sockmonster - can I suggest Alicia - sounds a little like Lucia without being too close?

Astrophe · 17/05/2009 11:01

sockmonster, sorry to hear about your DD1

What about Laurena (LauRENa) - similar Spanish feel to Lucia (which is beautiful btw).

Lauretta is sweet too.

Louisa, shortened to Luie is sweet too...I love 'L' names.

My favourite name for a girl is Ilya/Illy - doesn't start with L, but has a similar sound I think.

sockmonster · 17/05/2009 10:52

Hello thanks all, bit concerned about Ladonna and Lettice

DD was Lucía (loo-see-a, not loo-chee-a!) argh but we lost her not long ago after a long stay in hospital and I am pregnant which is very strange timing, and wanted a name that sort of honours her, but isn't too similar as I'm sure no.2 wouldn't thank me. Though secretly I want to call dc2 Lucia too, it may be frowned upon!

Thanks for your suggestions!

Oops, thanks thumbwitch - didn't read OP very well.

Now I am on a music tip with Ian Hunter and Lisa, I can't help thinking about Lucretia lol [does Goth dance wreathed in dry ice]

thumbwitch · 17/05/2009 00:20

I'm guessing that the OP has a family member with the name Lucy/Lucia or something like that, not that she hates the names?

Presumably that knocks Lucille out of the running as well? And Lucianne?

ThePlanningCommittee · 17/05/2009 00:19

OP, Lucia is lovely. The feminist in me also likes Lilith.

I'm also cheering for a Lisa comeback! All the Lisas I've ever know have been very sorted no-nonsense women. Plus there's the added bonus of having Ian Hunter's seminal "Lisa Likes Rock & Roll" as your DD's personal soundtrack
