Hormonal moral support on my name choice!!!

As a rule, don't need 'pats on backs' or told 'it will be alright' - however, DD2 is 1wk old, and so still very 'tempermental' at the mo. We decided on her being called Matilda. now, 8 people have said 'oh, how unusual, where did you get that name from', in a 'i don't like it, and it is stupid' tone of voice!!!
Be genuine, as i can't actually fall out with you lot - is it really that bad???

It's a lovely and ancient name. I can't think why anyone would not have heard of it.

It's an absolutely beautiful name.

Frankly I'm a little disturbed that there are folks who haven't heard of it. It's a common name, definitely in the Top 100. And what about "Waltzing Matilda?" Where do these people live, under a bloody rock?

Backing you up 100% here. It's a beautiful name - normal but characterful and very pretty. Lovely.

I think it is unusual, although of course I've heard of it.
I know no one who is called Matilda - young or old. When I think of Matilda I think of the Roald Dhal book but I've not read it.
I think it depends where you live and what circles you move in.
I wouldn't choose it myself but I don't dislike it.

It is a lovely name and anyone who comments on a name after the baby has been named is very rude indeed.

Unless the baby is called Klo'eh

Terrible, terrible name I think you should change it immediately....

Before anyone has a go at me, DD1 is Matilda, Tilly for short at the mo. We chose it cos we thought it was unusual, with a month of having her met 5 other Tilly's.

Have to say really I thinks its a fab name (well duh!) and since she was a baby we've not met many others so hopefully she won't be one of many!

I love Matilda / Tilly. Friends of DP called their DD Matilda-Honey which I also liked.

It's lovely. Mind you, DD is Harriet and I lost count of the number of people who said that's unusual and I thought, er no, it isn't!

Matilda is a beautiful name!

like others have said it is not an unusual name at all, can be shortened to Tilly which is absolutely lovely. or could be shortened to Mattie which is also lovely.

strange people to say 'how unusual'! don't let anyone make you think its not a nice name because it is beautiful and you chose a gorgeous name for your daughter

Matilda is a fabulous name, I love it! It's not even like it is an unusual name, I know two Matildas who are under the age of 3.

People can be very close-minded, they probably would prefer if you gave your daughter a common name like Emma or Chloe...... but there are thousands of Emmas and Chloes and we don't need anymore of those!

you can't please everyone with your choice in name, just as well really or all the kids would have the same names

its lovely, ignore them and enjoy your little girl

thank you so much - DP was starting to tiptoe around me, as it was his choice!! Just wanted to make sure that I hadn't ruined the poor little cretins' life, by ensuring she would end up 'trailer trashing' herself, due to lack of intelligent name issued by parents!!!!

I regret giving DD1 the middle name Matilda...
but only because I could not use it as DD2's first name.
