oh and that's why I'm spiker...lame no?

spiker · 25/05/2009 23:36

Spike is an occasional nickname of ours for DS1, it is a play on his abbreviated real name, but he is v skinny, wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a full-blown nickname at school at some point.

I like it (like his abbreviated name even more though), but would not have considered giving it as a real name.

bumpsoon - are you actually thinking of using it?

cheesesarnie · 25/05/2009 23:25

my friend really wanted to call her ds spike, but her family hated it. she caved in and chose something else at the last minute, has regretted it!

MadameCastafiore · 20/05/2009 11:48

One of my cousins friends has a child called Spike - she is a dire person - chavtastic to the Nth degree!

Mind you she has a friend with a child called Romeo too - the child is the least likely looking Romeo you could ever come across.

Please call your children proper names FGS!

I make this post every time the name Spike is mentioned: it was a nickname for someone tall and thin (ie they look like a spike). That's how Spike Milligan got his nickname in the army - and also no doubt the gentleman in the waiting group's friend got his the same way. And the guy from Hi-Di-Hi was probably intended to have got his the same way.

Thunderduck · 19/05/2009 20:45

I think it's awful.

fruitstick · 19/05/2009 17:52

I like it but not as a proper name. I love unusual names but I think the acid test has to be..... if you called it in the park and people expected a dog to come bounding over - avoid!

singersgirl · 19/05/2009 17:49

Isn't Spike the dog in Tom and Jerry? I know Spike's been a nickname for a long time, but I find it kind of an odd choice as a given name for a child. What's nice about spikes? Sharp, pointy things, bad tempers, metal fences and security arrangements, dangerous substances being put into drinks without people knowing...I don't get any warm fuzzies.

TheCrackFox · 19/05/2009 17:44

I love the name Spike.

Kayzr · 19/05/2009 17:39

diedandgonetodevon · 19/05/2009 17:37

Violet- Coby is usually a nn for Jacob.

fucksticks · 19/05/2009 17:34

I love the name Spike. Very nice

lynniep · 19/05/2009 17:31

I have a friend with a boy called Storm and another called Xander...

violethill · 17/05/2009 11:04

Yuck! Horrible!

Doctor surgery is obviously the place to hear awful names - I was there last week and there was a little boy called Coby

randomname · 14/05/2009 20:33

DS2 was nearly Spike but one appeared at nursery and threw a spanner in the works! who would have thought that was likely!

browntrout · 14/05/2009 20:09

always reminds me of the slightly pathetic one from hi-de-hi (mind you, that description could apply to most of the cast...)

spenthen · 14/05/2009 19:54

I once had to dance at a wedding with a man called Spike. He had hard skin on his hands, and he smelled funny.

So that put me off.

chegirl · 13/05/2009 16:26

I know a Spike and he is wuverly (thats sappy for lovely).

I like it but then I lean towards unusual names. (you know the ones that get
AHHHH chav alert on MNs )

DiamondHead · 13/05/2009 16:23

Terence Alan Patrick Seán Milligan according to Wiki.

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/05/2009 16:20
