Elliott is lovely

I have an Ellis ( male) and yes it can also be used as a girls name,it's mainly boys though I think from an earlier thread...

I don't care if it "sounds feminine" i love it (for a boy .... )

nappyaddict · 13/05/2009 18:39

No. I know quite a few Elliots. They are shortened to Eli (pron El-ee), El and Els.

Depends on whether he's a Samuel or an Samantha

SamsMama · 13/05/2009 18:04

NO! I hate how people take prefectly sound boys' names and use them for girls. Grrrr! I'm sensitive because I've heard so many people say "Sam seems kind of girly now..."

Meant to add, that I have never seen a baby name site that says it is a girl's name . Maybe it depends on the country?

suiledonn · 13/05/2009 17:52

Ever seen Law and Order: Special Victims Unit? Nothing feminine about the Elliot character in that!

Raahh · 13/05/2009 17:50

I have an Elliot and it is usually shortened (if at all), to El, and he's definitely not girlie! Know one has ever called him 'ellie' or 'lottie' afaik!

Yes, she does Rusty Bear

It's a bit like Addison - I always thought that was a Boy's name till I watched Grey's Anatomy...

I had a quick look online and found a few hits with people using Elliott as a girls name. Seems it's becoming more common. It's getting a bit like Ashley I suppose

RustyBear · 13/05/2009 16:42

But doesn't Elliott Reed say in Scrubs that her father gave her a boy's name?

I have known a couple of Elliotts at school (both boys) they were both shortened into El - but it was a shorter sound than say Elle McPherson's name usually has & didn't really sound feminine.

SarahL2 · 13/05/2009 16:29

saying that - the only Eliott I know is a boy

lilolilmanchester · 13/05/2009 15:40

not at all, lovely name.

SarahL2 · 13/05/2009 15:38

The TV show "scrubs" has a female character called Elliot.

Elliot Reed

Tulisa · 13/05/2009 15:32

i think Elliot is a lovely boys name, i remember a boy in my class at school called Elliot, quite good looking and not at all feminine!

No

sockmonster · 13/05/2009 15:07

I don't think Elliot is feminine I know a cute little boy named Elliot, his name doesn't get shortened.

Ellis, however, which I have heard on a boy, sounds weird and feminine to me.

Elliot- good name

Ellis- BAD!

mayanna123 · 13/05/2009 14:04

The name itself doesn't sound feminine, but most obvious shortenings do imo - El (Elle), Elly (Ellie), Lot (Lottie)... So as long as you don't shorten it, its fine.

diedandgonetodevon · 13/05/2009 13:49

Not in the slightest. I've always thought of it as a strong, masculine sounding name.

TheApprentice · 13/05/2009 13:48

No. I hope not anyhow as it is ds2s name! I actually posted about the name Elliot about a year ago when I was pregnant, wondering what people shortened it to. Am really pleased with the name, it suits him (and he is avery boyish looking baby!)
