i saw a brilliant thread that was the same subject as this but for boys.....interested to see what girls names we all love but not mad/brave enough to use....

i love Guinevere and Sheherazade.....i'm not even sure how to pronounce sheherazade and i still love it.....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I wanted to call a girl Tuscany ever since I was little - I never did, my girls have very ordinary, run of the mill names. I know it's a place and everything, but I just think it has a nice ring.

Apparently my dad wanted to call my sister Tangerine but my mum vetoed it, she was Catherine instead. He still thinks she would have ended up a popstar or actress or something with the name Tangerine!

Lettice

silverfrog · 11/05/2009 17:31

None of mine are that weird, but dh vetoed them all:

Heidi
Meredith
Verity

are my absolute faves, but there ar eprobably plenty more!

Fimbo · 11/05/2009 17:31

Miranda, dh would laugh. He thinks of names like that being terribly English and we are Scottish.

Mamazon · 11/05/2009 17:31

blue - surname is bell.

Belle - see above.

Genevieve - he just didn't like it

ophelia - sounded rude apparaently.

Mamazon · 11/05/2009 17:29

Elise - apparently people would think we named her after a trainer.

lourdes/lola - named after madonna's kid

lolita - 'peedo' film refference

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/05/2009 17:27

Mine is not that way out but I love Stella ......

Unfortunately, DH has (had) a bit of a reputation for getting horribly drunk on the Artois version on a few occasions and I don't think we could get past the association

Iolanthe.

TrillianAstra · 11/05/2009 16:30

Sheh-HERUH-zahde?

MrsMattie · 11/05/2009 16:21

Zora after Zora Neale Hurston

Maya (but close friend got there first)

Also loved Aoife and Saoirse, but DH wasn't having 'tricky' Gaelic names

Binkster · 11/05/2009 16:15

Sorry, posted my response to the other thread for some reason.....

Meant to say:

I love Aoife, Maeve and Seren, all of which DH has vetoed!

Binkster · 11/05/2009 16:15

I absolutely love Ambrose- but DH thinks it?s too weird. I just can?t really imagine shouting it in the supermarket, but it?s such a cool name!

hf128219 · 11/05/2009 16:14

Sheherazade is pronounced more or less as you see it.

TrillianAstra · 11/05/2009 16:12

I know a Cassandra in RL. It's not that weird.

I like Elspeth but I know it's a proper old lady name and if you call a child that they will inevitably have a horrible lisp!

MintyyAeroEgg · 11/05/2009 16:10

Snap boddleboot. I love Sheherazade ... but don't know how to pronounce it either!

I would also have chosen Dorothy or Barbara - but my dh didn't agree with me.

RedEmma · 11/05/2009 16:08

Serendipity

barnpot · 11/05/2009 16:06

GreatGooglyMoogly · 11/05/2009 16:02

Cassandra (Cassie)

SummatAnNowt · 11/05/2009 16:00

Angharad (sounds crap with my accent!)

Serenity (given our family it would be like a joke name!)

Lita (lovely, but sounds just like litre)
