Almost as bad as shortening Alexander to 'Xander' instead of Alex. trying way too hard...

hmmmm bit pretentious I think. When DH and I meet people who are a bit 'rah', a bit country club, we call them jonty and tristan. no offence to anyone out there, but it's a name that screams oxbridge scarf and hugh grant stylie big hair. equally horrible nn for jonathan is 'Joth'. Ugh.

My son has a friend called Jonty. He is neither titled nor poncy! Actually, the family is part chinese so I always thought it came from there, but maybe not.

Love it but only as a nn for Jonathan. I wanted to use it but dh is a Jonathan and he HATES his name, and wouldnt let me!

PIL suggested this as DS1's name. We didn't ask name advice ever again. It is too posh and sounds like a "sound", not a name.
