Dp has finally suggested a name - unsure

We're having a girl, and I've told him that I have given up because every name I suggest, he vetoes.

He text me at work earlier with a suggestion, but I'm undecided because of how it sounds.

The name is Tia Nicole. Nicole being the middle name, which for some reason has always been the middle name no matter what first name is suggested.

Does Tia make people think 'Tear'? Or if it wasn't mentioned, wouldn't it cross your mind?

We haven't decided on this yet btw, just looking for opinions first on the above dilemma

Thea Nicole?

Rhea Nicole?

Mia Nicole?

sockmonster · 06/05/2009 12:13

I don't think 'Tear' when I hear the name Tia, fear not. However anyone who speaks Spanish (billions of people worldwide) will hear 'Aunt'... hmm.. it's also slang for old or 'matey' (something like that)or 'babe/girl' but an older lady in some countries----
argh
I thus prefer Mia? Or Talia, or Thea? or Téa? (as in tay-a)

Tia isn't that bad if you are thoroughly English though, I think it's quite cute really.

Is a bit stripper-ish with Nicole though...... sorry trying to be honest!

IheartNY · 06/05/2009 11:47

Tia Nicole is fine.
i've heard of a couple of Tia's and have never thought 'tear'

CheeryCherry · 06/05/2009 11:43

To throw a spanner in the works, I like Tia but not Nicole...it reminds me of that French playboy model Anna Nicole who died a few yrs ago.
Tia is good though.

peachy73 · 06/05/2009 11:37

My DS2 has a Tia in her class - it's a lovely name.

My DS3 is Talia - I was reading an article about George Clooney while pregnant (can;t think how that might have influenced me!) and Talia is his first wife's name.

PuppyMonkey · 06/05/2009 11:34

I think you should vetoe your DP if that's the best he can come up with tbh.

VeryAnnieMary · 06/05/2009 11:31

Could use Thea but pronounce it Tia?

SheWillBeLoved · 06/05/2009 11:28

Hobbgoblin - I'm not forcing myself to like it, I actually do I'm just wondering whether people will think "She's named her baby Tear?! " upon hearing it.

I always over think names and find reasons not to like them.

We wanted something short and pretty. He has a harsh sounding surname, and yes I know I don't have to use his surname, and Tia Nicole just seems to flow well with it.

I just can't stop worrying what others will think ... probably wasn't the best idea to ask on here

I love it, fab name. I know 2 Tia's so it's not that common.

hobbgoblin · 06/05/2009 10:20

Especially bad if your surname is Smith

WinkyWinkola · 06/05/2009 10:19

Porn star name IMO.

hobbgoblin · 06/05/2009 10:18

It's okay. But, imo only okay, not amazing!

Anyway, just cos this is his one contribution doesn't mean you have to force self to like it.

Act as he has and vetoe at your leisure.

OneTiredFox · 06/05/2009 10:16

What about something longer, with Tia as a nickname? Like Anastasia or Natalia? I know these don't exactly have Tia in but they sound like Tia could be a feasible shortening.

Makes me think stripper (sorry!)

RachieB · 05/05/2009 23:23

It's ok, but prefer Mia or even Nia
or Tiana or Talia

The only Tia I know is a dog!

It does make me think Tia Maria, but if you and your DP like it, that's all that matters.

MrsMattie · 05/05/2009 23:10

I like both names, but not together.

SheWillBeLoved · 05/05/2009 23:10

I like it Mutt - DP however, has just vetoed it. Argh.

He's more interested in 'unusual' names, rather than the classic names that I like. Finding a balance is bloody hard!
