That's exactly it, Greensleeves - you summed up my feelings entirely

Greensleeves · 29/04/2009 19:51

I think the please is inappropriately emotional and a bit weird, and pushy

SoupDragon · 29/04/2009 19:50

I think it's rude to say a blunt "don't do X" but the please makes it more of a plea.

SoupDragon · 29/04/2009 19:49

I have a female Wren gallumphing around like an elephant upstairs. She's meant to be asleep

Greensleeves · 29/04/2009 19:49

Ah, I agree [gulp] it wasn't unpleasant, but it was annoying and inappropriate. IMVHO.

SoupDragon · 29/04/2009 19:48

I disagree Greeny [relief] . It would have been unpleasant had she said "If you call your boy Wren you may as well start bullying him now and save time"

differentID · 29/04/2009 19:47

girl- even if only for the connection to the Naval term WREN.

Greensleeves · 29/04/2009 19:47

Actually now I come to think of it I do know a female Wren, short for Kerenza but she's always called Wren

DontCallMeBaby · 29/04/2009 19:46

Girls' name. I know two!

Greensleeves · 29/04/2009 19:44

I disagree Soupy [huzzah!!!)

I can see Kwini's point - it is a bit annoying when somebody posts "PLEASE don't call your child xxx/wean your child at xxx weeks/let your child eat rollmops etc. It's not an appropriate response.

but I'm sure seeker didn't mean to be condescending

SoupDragon · 29/04/2009 19:42

FFS, there was nothing unpleasant about how Seeker expressed her opinion.

SoupDragon · 29/04/2009 19:41

I'm with Seeker.

Actually, I wouldn't use it as a name at all, although it is DD's nickname.

Kwini · 29/04/2009 19:40

Didn't mean to be snide, Littlfish - but seeker often seems to express the same opinion, whether or not it has been solicited, and in a manner which I find unpleasant and unnecessary. No one posts these threads seeking permission to use a name, and we don't owe it to someone on an internet forum not to choose a name that he/she disapproves of!

FWIW, I like Wren.

Mize · 29/04/2009 19:39

Unisex

sophieandbelly · 29/04/2009 19:37

girls name

girlandboy · 29/04/2009 19:11

Only heard of L'Wren, who is Mick Jagger's lady.

Littlefish · 29/04/2009 19:09

Kwini - Seeker has expressed an opinion. You, on the other hand are simply being a bit snide in my opinion. Give it a rest.

lotspot · 29/04/2009 19:04

I'm not sure I could say either way!

its fairly unisex in my mind I think

Reminds me strongly of the girls name Erin for some reason!!

chequersmate · 29/04/2009 18:16

It's a bird's name.

HTH.

lou031205 · 29/04/2009 18:15

I worked with a male charge nurse called Wren. He didn't seem troubled by his name.

Kwini · 29/04/2009 18:11

"some things need to be said"

Does this make you the self-appointed guardian of good judgement?

paisleyleaf · 29/04/2009 17:46

I don't know
Is Robin just a boy's name, or is it unisex?
But then you've got jenny wren.

I've never heard of it as a name.

seeker · 29/04/2009 17:46

Sure bumpsoon's delighted to have you fighting her corner, kwini.

She didn't say I couldn't express an opinion, did she - and some things need to be said.
