Checked with the expert who pronounced that Dragon would 'get picked on like hell'. That's small boys for you.

marmoset · 22/04/2009 14:38

I would ask the opinion of a 10 year old boy if I were you as they tend to be very very honest about theses things - in fact, i'll ask one later today and get back to you

kitkatqueen · 21/04/2009 22:24

If you really need to give your ds the name Dragon just please please don't do Butter for a middle name!! >>>

Shylily · 21/04/2009 20:49

www.20000-names.com/dragon_names.htm
Try looking at this - it's got lots of names which mean dragon or snake etc. What about Ryuu (Japanese meaning 'dragon spirit')? (Except I don't even know how to pronounce it!)
or
Tatsuo - dragon man
If you use another language then it mightlook exotic rather than odd

thumbwitch · 21/04/2009 00:42

ShowOfHands - love the Fred in there with the others!

Dragon - no, even in my aerie faerie brain that's a Step Too Far. I ike Rafferty, like Cassian and Finn. Not so sure about Aslan and some of the others.

What about Elphinn? Finn for short?

And as someone else suggested, Draco is a good alternative to Dragon (have this pic in my head of a little boy with snuffly nose, glasses and a bit on the weedy side - "Hey Dragon, stop snivelling" - just doens't really work now does it... Not that I am suggesting for a SECOND that you would have a weedy DS, hobb)

FAQinglovely · 21/04/2009 00:32

oooooo hobgoblin - i've just realised it's you with these, errrm interesting names

Rafferty Arthur is cool

simpson · 21/04/2009 00:27

no no no no no no

Please!!

Think some of the alternatives on this thread are good though.

Am liking:
Merlin
Cassian
Arthur
Finn

But liking Raffery Arthur the best...

SK1980 · 21/04/2009 00:19

wtf!!! that's absolutely dreadful! please tell me you are joking?

MollieO · 20/04/2009 23:48

You could offer some help for names on the Mills & Boon thread

LetThemEatCake · 20/04/2009 23:42

la la la la la la la LA LA LAAAAAAAAAAAA

TsarChasm · 20/04/2009 22:00

Pod? I thought of Bod when I read that. Anyone remember Bod?

Shylily · 20/04/2009 21:57

I know children called Pod and Spike so Dragon's not that way-out.
I mean, 'Apple' 'Sunday' ...
Go for your life.

janeite · 20/04/2009 21:12

Oh dear.

Aragorn?
Wolf?
Gandalf?!!

Rafferty is really quite sweet.

Rafferty Arthur (has the king and myths and stuff without the OTT-ness)
Rafferty Edmund (Edmund is a cool name and has the Narnia link)
Rafferty Leon (I don't like Leon much but it does sound quite strong)
Rafferty Duncan (sounds a bit like dragon, another king etc).

Then again, I can't mock you because had I got my hippydippyhormonal way dd1 could well have ended up as Melody!

georgimama · 20/04/2009 21:10

Aslan and Merlin have just made me snort wine up my nose. Help, I can't breathe.

flightoftheeasterbunyip · 20/04/2009 21:08

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

georgimama · 20/04/2009 21:08

What about Wolf? Could be Wolfgang as a "real" name. Do it, go on, you know you want to.

(You can't be due yet, can you? It can't be nine months already?)

ShowOfHands · 20/04/2009 21:06

I know a Merlin, siblings are Phinnibus, Elfin and Fred!

Dragon's brilliant.

Like Indigo too.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 18/04/2009 18:24

This is the worst set of names I've ever seen on mumsnet. You have either all been drinking or are very hormonal

Aslan? ASLAN?? ASLAN???

superseded only by the wrongness of calling your kid Dragon or Merlin.

No more hallucenegic drugs for you lot

ilovemydogandMrObama · 18/04/2009 18:21

fair enough

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 18:18

No it isn't. It's a good nickname but a crap name.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 18/04/2009 18:12

Bear is a cool name

SoupDragon · 18/04/2009 18:11

Oh FGS! Even I wouldn't use Dragon and I am one

As for Aslan, LetThemEatCake, that is simply cruel.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 18/04/2009 18:10

I kind of like Dragon actually! BUT you have to think about how they may feel about the name. And their future...job interviews, people always asking if it is for real, that kind of thing...

A very cool second name though.

everGreensleeves · 18/04/2009 18:04

how about Draco instead?

TwoScrambledEggs · 18/04/2009 18:04

Use Blaize with Dragon as a nn
