We've had classic names, what about EXICITING or BEAUTIFUL boys names?

The classic names were nice but seemed quite dull IMO, what boys names would do you like that could be described as exciting or beautiful?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I liked it both ways but it was less common to spell it Rueben... Still most people spell it wrong... Even the family and his pre-school get it wrong... grrrr

I called my boys Rueben and Isaac...
I loved the names Elliott, Isiah, Malachi and Caleb... I like all the biblical names...DH liked Levi and Asher

All very handsome names and very masculine...
Not sure about Gabriel though I know 3 boys born last year called that...

Raphael is lovely!!!

I know that no one calls their babies David anymore... It was too common in the 60's and 70's but I don't know many children that are called David

Seeker.

What do you think of the name Raphael Seeker?

seeker · 08/04/2009 22:06

FairLady - that only applies if the child concerned never leaves home!

Seeker...think it depends a bit as well of where you live...around here we have many eitehr very unusual names (because we have a lot eastern european people living here, as well, as a gorwing number of black people who choose, for us, unusual nmaes....etc....) and then tehre is also very traditional, but almost as unusual nmaes, such as Gary, Patrick, Craig and Ross,....etc...which aren't really unusual, but are now...iykwim...and than there are those "obvious chav-choices" (as some may think)...such as Rio, Cash...etc...
so...here my sons names lend nicely in ...

audley · 08/04/2009 16:18

mmm, see what you mean but the names changed in my family are Lesley, Dennis, Julian and Patricia, so not that out there really!

seeker · 08/04/2009 16:12

See, I don't think of Barnaby as at all exotic or unusual or eyebrow raising - and Barney even less so. I'm really talking about the Oedipus/Ryker/Dragon/Oak type names

audley · 08/04/2009 15:54

Hi seeker, I've given up posting for lent, but can't resist your come on!
So, your naming experience has got me worried to be truthful! I have a Barnaby, I adore his name, but I am a little concerned now that he may hate it as he gets older. Also, when thinking about future babies I want equally lovely names to go with it, but perhaps I'll tone down future boy options...So I am taking your experiences seriously, but it's too late for children already named! Also, at least 4 of my close relatives are known by alternative names, I may ask them how they feel about it.
Love the nn Patch too :0)

I'VE GOT IT!!!!!!

Aslan.

TsarChasm · 08/04/2009 10:02

Some 'exciting' names seem to be inspired by the Ikea catalogue. Of course some are exciting and beautiful.

I'm not saying which are which though.

seeker · 08/04/2009 09:47

See? Not a comment on my real life explanation of why I have concerns about exciting and beautiful names!

thumbbunny · 07/04/2009 23:52

I knew a boy at school called Clifford Valentine - he did suffer for his middle name when we found out, poor boy!

I know I've said this before but no harm in saying it again - I also knew a girl called Samantha Kate who was always known as Kate - er mum had hoped she would be a Sam, tomboy type - she was so far from that.

So, if you want to give your child an exciting name, I think it's a good idea to give them a less "interesting" name as a middle so they have the choice later.

LetThemEatCake · 07/04/2009 22:52

god, dh and I went for dinner last night and talk turned to names.

He is being a nightmare!! he has all of a sudden decided to remember that I liked the name Noah about 4 years ago (still like it, but just wouldn't use it now - too many of 'em around) and has now vowed that this is the only choice he will contemplate for a boy. That, or Zico.

I mean, FFS!!!

I've got 24 weeks to work on him ...

UpInArms · 07/04/2009 21:36

Why did living in Glasgow put you off midnight express?

midnightexpress · 07/04/2009 21:22

I would have gone for Raphael if I didn't live in Glasgow. I think it's lovely. Also like Gabriel and Xavier.

OrmIrian · 07/04/2009 21:18

Devon is a county where I come from. And very nice it is too. I'm not sure I'd want my son to be associated with cream teas though.

SuziSeis · 07/04/2009 20:51

I actually really like Devon and do not normally like place names

It is beautiful

LetThemEatCake · 07/04/2009 17:48

Um, Devon is sandwich meat where I come from.

The nasty, processed kind

Devon is lovely.

HAve you looked for unusual baby names books? I had a great one that said the names of loads of actors, what they'd called their kids, and what all of their characters were called in the films. Now they were unusual.

Pop quiz if anyone knows what the director robert Rodruiguez's boys are called...
