We've had classic names, what about EXICITING or BEAUTIFUL boys names?

The classic names were nice but seemed quite dull IMO, what boys names would do you like that could be described as exciting or beautiful?

William that should be...!

Eve4Walle · 12/04/2009 12:24

I always really loved the name Lysander (having seen a production of A Midsummer's Nights Dream) and swore blind at the age of 14 that my future son, should I be so lucky as to have one, would be given that name. In the event, last year, we chose Willaim instead!

I do still like it though....

lunamoon2 · 10/04/2009 18:21

Cazzaben, totally agree that friends and family should not be misspelling your child's name!!!!!
For what its worth a good friend of mine has misspelt my dd's name wrong for years. Her name is not "way out" or anything but there is more than 1 way of spelling it and she chooses the wrong one every time

I have told her but it makes no difference.

Simplysally · 10/04/2009 10:24

LetThemEatCake

I feel your pain everytime I see my daughter's name written as Pheobe or Phobe. Usually by the same people who say 'is that from Friends?'

Mind I hate it just as much when she is addressed as Feebs but that's a whole other thread .

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/04/2009 09:26

'mummy, is my name felix?'

LetThemEatCake · 09/04/2009 21:37

My dd is called Phoenix

it constantly gets spelled Pheonix by by other people - ugh.

And some of her nursery teachers call her Felix - to the extent to which she asked me "mummy, is my name Felix?"

quite annoying but all par for the course I guess.

Cazzaben · 09/04/2009 21:03

I already said that I dont mind when strangers get it wrong as they dont know how I spell it... But like you said Friends and family should get it right.

In fact if you type in Rueben it will come up with lots of people named Rueben...

Anyway I dont need to make any justifications to anyone about how I spell my sons name. If its unique then fine it suits him well doesn't it?

My name is Carolyn and I'm always getting called Caroline... They are both just as common so does it make it ok for people to constantly call me Caroline??

seeker · 09/04/2009 17:48

Ruben is a variation.

Absolutely. Friends and family should get it right. But everyone else in the world the Rueben meets will think it's a typo. Fair enough - namer's choice. But it's not reasonable to be cross with people who get it wrong.

Simplysally · 09/04/2009 17:42

I've seen Ruben as a variation as well. If someone chooses to spell a name a particular way, it's rude to ignore that if you know their preference.

One of my friends has the same name as me but spelt with one extra letter in her version. It's not rocket science to add the extra letter into her name.

seeker · 09/04/2009 17:22

Even Google says "Did you mean Reuben?"!!!!!!!!!

seeker · 09/04/2009 17:20

Well, that's me told. But I really don't think you can be cross with people who get it wrong, can you?

Cazzaben · 09/04/2009 16:42

I had my baby and I called him what I WANTED to call him... It is spelt properly for him.... to be honest Seeker I dont go around questioning people about how they spell their childrens names... surely its an individuals preference??? I dont believe there is a right or wrong way to spell it... Just because it isn't common doesn't mean its not PROPER!!!!!

So in YOUR opinion I have spelt it wrong... well lucky for me I dont have to receive any cards from you do I?

seeker · 09/04/2009 14:20

Cazzaben - this is a genuine question. WHY didn't you spell it properly?

Cazzaben · 09/04/2009 12:23

I understand people spelling his name wrong if they don't know him... But family??? He's 3 now and we must have sent out soooo many Christmas cards, Birthday cards etc and they still spell it wrong... I think this is just laziness!!
I actually quite like phoenix... Maybe for a girl though...

I had never even thought of girls names both times we were expecting... I guess because deep down I knew I was having boys both times...

DrowningInChocolateEggs · 09/04/2009 11:28

DS was nearly, but not quite:

Phoenix
Apollo

I still think they are beautiful and exciting but our local school is quite rough and I thought they might cause problems there.

The name we called DS in the end is on this thread though.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 09/04/2009 10:15

He will be going as Raff Seeker

seeker · 09/04/2009 10:12

I think that if my ds was Raphael I would send him to the school he's at now as Raff, frankly. But that is quite cool!

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 09/04/2009 08:40

My point was that it could be considered too poncey until you have a look at the wierd and wonderful 'chav tastic' names that are rife round here.

And because of the Liverpool mananger and Raffa Nadal I dont think it will be a problem.

Really? You don't think it's too poncey for your area then?

It was a general comment anyway, not directed at you. I speak from experience having grown up and suffered with a name combination that f-ing rhymed. Couldn't wait to ditch my surname when I married. But that's OK because my parents loved the name and didn't have to live through the teasing.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 09/04/2009 08:25

I dont think Raphael will cause too many problems later in life Soupy

SoupDreggon · 09/04/2009 08:23

I do think you have to remember that it's not you who has to live with the name and deal with any problems for the rest of your life.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 09/04/2009 08:08

Cazzaben - You have the same taste in boys names as me .. and my DH has the same taste as yours

I do wonder if Raphael is a bit poncey for my area but like fairlady said many 'chav chastic' names are quite out there these days

seeker · 09/04/2009 06:15

Look, if you take a name that has a spelling that hes been seen as "correct" for thousands of years and choose to spell it differently, then it seems a bit bizarre to be cross with people who spell it the conventional way! I could, I suppose, have spelled my dd's name Grase, but it would be entirely my fault that she would spend the rest of her life correcting people because they thought it was a typo!

Not keen on angel names, Quack - seem a bit hard to live up to! But Raphael is OK. Better than Chamuel or Haniel anyway!
