Seeing your DCs names in this topic.

Do you struggle when you see your DCs names in this topic and when people say they don't like it do you feel a bit angry?

Or am I just mad???

I don't mind if they say "It's not my cup of tea" but when they say "It's poncey" or "it's chavey". I recently saw someone say that my DS1's name was "stuffy" I almost feel like I should defend my boys names.

I think I might stay away from here in future.

My dds names appear on here every now and then, but seem to feature equally on 'names we love' and 'names we hate' type threads so I don't really mind. Probably means I've got it about right imho

seeker · 27/03/2009 19:49

When we called our dd Grace everybody said 9or thought!) how wacky and off the wall a name it was. My mother in law was so worried she rang my mother to see if she could persuade me to change my mind. That was 13 years ago. Now.......!

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 19:47

the time I was actually living there I saw it go from something amazing with a feeling of a great future, to the chaos that surrounded the 2000 presidential elections.

Just before we actually left Zim (in 2000) we bought a newspaper to take with us and keep - because the headline was so incredibly shocking and (relatively) unheard of before - a white farmer that had been murdered, little did we know that was only the beginning.

MrsMattie · 27/03/2009 19:44

Doesn't bother me at all.

My son's name is almost always described as gorgeous on here. My DD's name is frequently referred to as 'not a proper name'.

Whatever.

I quite like it when people say they dont like my DCs names. It means they arent run of the mill, dull names!

pointydog · 27/03/2009 19:33

it wouldn't bother me. I think I've seen them mentioned a couple of time. Not bovvered.

My daughter's called Tabitha. According to MN, I think I was really supposed to have a kitten.

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 19:12

Jajas - you must have been there about a year before me then - I went on a Gap "Year" in Sept 1997, and didn't return to the UK until April 200 - complete with husband bun in oven

Went back again in 2006 to visit friends and DH's family - was so sad to see how bad it had got

MinkyBorage · 27/03/2009 19:11

I like it because normally when people say they don't like dds names, I don't like any of the names they are mentioning and I feel smug like I have the best names and they've got no taste!

Mine are boring, old fashioned, and "dad names" that "sound weird on a baby". And it's half the reason we chose them; we wanted traditional but we also wanted uncommon.

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 19:02

no lovely south sea island I'm afraid - they're all Zimbabwean names.

But my god we had trouble coming up with DS3's name (we'd accidentally ended up with 2 "T"'s = ie it wasn't a concious decision to have their names starting with the same letter), and felt if we had another boy we couldn't really leave him out. We wanted to avoid any "family" connections with any of the names and virtually all of DH's family have children's names beginning with it LOL.

Tinker · 27/03/2009 18:51

I just assume they must have no taste. Especially when I see the names they do like

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 18:51

Takunda is known by everyone as "TK" - infact so few people knew his proper name that when I sent the Christening invites out I had "Takunda Myles (TK)" printed on them lol. And when I took him to the doctors recently I had to pause before I could remember what name they would have o the conputer screen in front of them

Tafara has preferred to be called Taf/Taffy for a few years now.

Tongai - well he's just Tongai LOL (although DH occasionally calls him by the English version of his name "Tony")

Umlellala · 27/03/2009 18:50

dd has a poncey name, ds a chavvy one. judge away, judge away...

kayzr · 27/03/2009 18:49

They are really nice. I love Takunda, it is great.

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 18:47

kayzr - not really that exotic sounding

posted on MN a thousand times before so no qualmf about doing it again

Tafara Yehudi
Tongai Scott
Takunda Myles

georgimama · 27/03/2009 18:39

Yes, DS's "try hard" "poncey" names are family names too. OK, I'll admit he doesn't need 2 middle names. But I liked them, why should I choose only one to satisfy other people's inverted snobbery?

kayzr · 27/03/2009 18:31

FAQ, I bet your boys have gorgeous exotic sounding names.
