Mine is Lucinda spelt Lucinder

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Littlefish, could Chesney be Irish? I met a girl called Duchesney, pronounced Du-shane and I think it's a bona fide name. No one ever pronounced it correctly outside of Ireland though.

This thread is making me weep tears of true despair. Some of the names are hideous. I mean, Geccicka ffs.

The registrar asked us how to spell our daughter's (very normal) name, and afterwards I wished I'd said some weird and wonderful spelling just to see her reaction. Probably lucky I didn't or dd may have been stuck with her name being spelt Sharlut or something!

LilianGish · 28/03/2009 18:19

Nike - pronounced Nicky (a girl).

Littlefish · 28/03/2009 18:14

I have taught a "Chesney", prounounced "Janée" (with a soft J and emphasis on the second syllable).

Tidey · 28/03/2009 16:33

Coreigh
Layeon
Shaneece
Kodee

Eurgh. Apologies if you have a child called any of the above though.

SJisontheway · 28/03/2009 16:30

Juanita - spelt right but pronounced Joo - an - eeta! I kid you not

frogs · 28/03/2009 15:31

DS used to have a Jhané in his class.

WorzselMummage · 28/03/2009 15:30

Kimberleigh..

BonyM · 28/03/2009 15:23

Well, tbh I'm not sure of the correct spelling but I think Sheree (with an accute accent over the penultimate e).

MrsSeanBean · 28/03/2009 15:19

What is Chray meant to be? Or is it just an odd name in its own right?

BonyM · 28/03/2009 15:15

DD1 has a Chray in her class.

Friends have a 17yr old Emily who for the last couple of years has insisted on spelling her name Emilee. I guess she thinks it's cooler or something...

kickassangel · 28/03/2009 14:57

melony (melanie, i don't think she taseted like melon)
geccicka (jessica)
kattie (katie)
Sain (sian)

i taught in an area which was quite educationally challenged. ALL of these had parents who'd been to the school, and there were teachers looking at the names saying 'yep, they couldn't spell when they were at school either'

MrsSeanBean · 28/03/2009 14:52

Keef (Keith) is the worst I have ever encountered. Naterlee a close second.

donnie · 28/03/2009 14:50

Karr- leigh.

fatzak · 28/03/2009 14:44

I once taught a Wensdee

Yes, the family did support the football team!!

Bubbaluv · 28/03/2009 14:42

B.J. That was the poor kid's whole name. The surname made it worse too - Wood!

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 14:42

can't decide what's worse : R-mani or Stayc

think I'm too old staid

WorzselMummage · 28/03/2009 14:40

Stayc.

She had a son called Whitby but thats a whole different thread..

ZZZen · 28/03/2009 14:37

I am wracking my brain trying to think of twinset's Irish surname but I don't get it.

Just as well eh twinset? I have you forever stuck in my mind as Miss Mugabe now though

Littlefish · 28/03/2009 14:36

Oooh, Opinions has just reminded me of another one!

I've taught a Siouxsie (Susie) (as in Siouxsie and the Banshees one must presume!)

pagwatch · 28/03/2009 14:32

titchy
my sister is a registrar and they absoloutely without question get the exact spelling - never ever assume.

Actually I must call my sis and see if she has any additions to this thread.
She does gently ask people to go away and think about it sometimes.

She is just the lovliest person so can get away with it . She saya you would be amazed how often people want their childs name to be a joke or a pun.

CharleeInSpring · 28/03/2009 14:30

I have know a Kayliegh wich was spelt K-lie.

I also know a gothy guy who was called Tony but he changed it to Toe-Knee whilst under the influence of god knows what.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2009 14:28

pmsl at "Just Ian"

titchy · 28/03/2009 13:34

I don't quite understand how so many names can be so appallingly spelt. Presumably the parents don't actually know the real spelling, but surely the Registrar, if they said 'Julie' wold just put down 'Julie'. Registrars don't go 'And how do you want o spell that?' do they?
