An old friend in the US has named her baby daughter McCaa. The only reason I know it's a girl is because her middle name is Laura!

Rooney for a boy

Sassy for a girl

We may have a Chardonnay joining my ds's class shortly.

FSB · 27/03/2009 13:39

katiepotatie · 27/03/2009 12:43

Heard a woman shout for Jubilee, I was looking for a dog! A toddler came running!

Top marks FAQinglovingley - it's my middle name, and I am of Jamaican origin.

romulus and martin, thats so funny

my boyfriends dad wanted to call him johnthebaptist, pretty bad

claireybee · 27/03/2009 10:46

T'mia-Rai

I also know brothers named after F1 drivers, names are fine on their own but it does make me smile when I hear them together.

coochicoo · 27/03/2009 10:26

I work with a St John. I've only recently reasised it's not spelt Sinjun!

LadyThompson · 27/03/2009 09:31

Well, fine, but Harley WAS named after Harley Davidson, which is wildly naff. Made up names are usually naff as well, although Vanessa was a made up name (and is quite nice), as was, er, Wendy.

On the other hand, those parents who fondly imagine they are giving their child a special, unique name...(Confundia, Wisha, Blade etc)...it's coming from a good place. Wrong, but coming from a good place.

suchawuss · 27/03/2009 09:04

Angelene that's hilarious

suchawuss · 27/03/2009 09:03

But even the name Harley existed before Harley Davidson. Now if you actually called your kid Harley Davidson then that would be a bit though!

FAQinglovely · 27/03/2009 09:02

LadyT - I think you'll find some of these "brand" names were proper names that were used as brands

Mercedes was named after the daughter of Daimler

Harley I believe was around long before the brand too

angelene · 27/03/2009 09:01

I heard about the school class which had two girls called....Unique!

LadyThompson · 27/03/2009 09:00

Yes, that is what I am saying. I don't like Mercedes but at least it is a proper name AS WELL as a brand. Harley is just a brand.

suchawuss · 27/03/2009 08:58

Mercedes was a girl's name long before Mercedes Benz came along though.

I once knew a Devis (yes, not even Davis). Horrid.

LadyThompson · 27/03/2009 08:53

Knew of two brothers called Romulus and....Martin.

Once knew a girl called Sharman, which I always thought was quite peculiar, but Keira Knightly's mother is called this too (mind you: Keira??)

Someone I used to work with had a little boy called Harley, which I think is a bit off. Kids shouldn't be called after brands (siblings Coco and Mercedes )

shauna72 · 27/03/2009 08:51

A boy named Firefly and one called Shed, after the band Shed7. Very very odd!

lazybones · 27/03/2009 08:40

Chilli

Eyeballsinthesky · 27/03/2009 08:28

DH has an uncle Jolyon (nn Jolly!) I won't mention his ex wife's name in case anyone from RL is on here but at Christmas you generally sing (if you're christian!) 'ooh tidings of comfort and xxx'

It was the wrong name for her but the names went well together!

And nothing wrong with Valentine, I quite like that.

PuppyMonkey · 27/03/2009 08:27

Am I the only one who finds some of these names quite nice? Echo is really cute.

We know a Destiny.

And my friend used to work with a Shine. Who had a brother called...................... Darren.

EdwardBear · 27/03/2009 08:23

There's a boy at DS1's nursery called Kacper (Casper) I havent met him just seen his name on a peg, so dont know whether its a name from another country or an English boy with parents who like unusual spellings!

EdwardBear · 27/03/2009 08:22

Slarty I know an Echo too - is the one you know in North London? She has 3 sisters with unusual names too...
