I love the name Agnes, but is it too old-fashioned and fusty? Will it cause ridicule in the playground?

I quite like it

3timeslucky · 07/03/2019 16:53

Hate it. It was my granny's name. She disliked it so much she used her second name. Which was Gladys. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

OwlBeThere · 07/03/2019 15:44

I think it’s taking the old lady trend too far. It’s a really harsh sound and not pleasing to the ear imo

GraceMarks · 07/03/2019 15:14

READ THE FULL THREAD! It's almost 10 years old and the decision was made long ago!

TheMuminator2 · 07/03/2019 14:43

in 1940 not now choose something better

Antonin · 07/03/2019 13:37

The archaic form of Agnes was Annis, which I prefer. No trouble pronouncing that and sounds similar to the French pronounciation of Agnes.
I personally dislike Agnes’s purely because of the harsh sounding G.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/03/2019 18:37

This baby will be heading off to secondary school soon so probably has a name Grin

Would love to know if it was Agnes in the end ?!

Florrieboo · 06/03/2019 02:01

It reminds me of Mrs Browns Boys and that is not a good thing!

GraceMarks · 05/03/2019 19:32

Oh, come on folks - little Agnes will have her 10th birthday coming up soon, do you really want to upset her by slagging off her name?

RuthW · 05/03/2019 16:23

I don't like it but certainly not old fashioned. Go for it.

Amy2391 · 05/03/2019 16:21

I like the name but it reminds me of mrs brown from mrs browns boys Confused

MikeUniformMike · 02/03/2019 14:31

It's fine.
You could use Annie as a nn if Aggie worries you.

bridgetreilly · 02/03/2019 14:20

Oh, for Pete's sake. Why do people do this on baby name threads?!!

bridgetreilly · 02/03/2019 14:18

I like it a lot and I can't imagine it raising so much as an eyebrow in the playground.

abiirthdaycake · 02/03/2019 12:54

Come on guys, you're being very rude to 9-year-old Agnes

Bumblebeesmum · 02/03/2019 10:19

Beeziekn33ze · 02/03/2019 00:38

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 02/03/2019 00:21

Agnes is truly horrible, sorry OP you did ask.

Switsy · 01/03/2019 22:31

Ten year old Aggie is in the playground wearing her pinny and rollers and yelling at the other kids to keep the noise down.

FoxyStoatontheProwl · 01/03/2019 21:20
