here goes....

Hector William

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fimbo · 07/03/2009 21:31

I vaguely remember Hector's House from my childhood.

How about Willem?

EarthMotherWannabe · 07/03/2009 21:30

It sounds like a good, strong combination and one that has meaning for you both. Stuff what anyone else thinks. Besides, there are some REALLY atrocious names out there and Hector isn't one of them!

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 21:25

yes william. Hector William

after DH deceased father. James has my fathers middle name so fair's fair....i like william anyway just think it is too commonly heard to have as first name....

OP posts:
EarthMotherWannabe · 07/03/2009 21:21

Ah, that's buggered that one then! Is he going to have a middle name or not?

paolosgirl · 07/03/2009 21:19

I think it depends on the kind of environment he'll grow up in. DS would get 'a good doin'' as they say round these parts if he was called Hector. If he went to one of the more avant-garde private schools in the city then Hector there would probably be the name equivalent of John elsewhere.

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 21:19

i do like harry but my best friends youngest is harry...can't get my head around doing the same name of someone so close...

OP posts:
EarthMotherWannabe · 07/03/2009 21:16

Btw, have you thought about Harry? Could also go nicely with the other two names.... Alternatively, just ignore the fact that I am now naming your third-born for you - it's the hormones!!

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 21:15

Ellie, James and Hector are great

not poncy at all

EarthMotherWannabe · 07/03/2009 21:14

I think you just have to question whether or not the name you give your child will result in relentless p*-taking. If you think you can get away with it, go for it! If I had a backbone, I would probably name a boy Alfie. Not a bizarre name you'd think, but my DH thinks he would get the wotsit beaten out of him at some point. Hmmph. Thank God we're probably having a girl!

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 21:09

its not a poncey name is it? i don't think it is but my other two are ellie and james which are quite solid names [i think anyway] so i want it to sound strong next to them

ellie james and hector....sound ok?

OP posts:
ellingwoman · 07/03/2009 21:09

I don't like it. To hector someone is to bully or annoy them, plus also the 'silly old Hector' thing

compo · 07/03/2009 21:06

I like it

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 21:06

why does it need to be shortened at all? its only 2 syllables!

please PLEASE PLEASE use it its fab!

janeite · 07/03/2009 21:06

That's the problem, I guess - Hec isn't good either!

DrowningInClutter · 07/03/2009 21:05

I just couldn't picture yelling 'Hec' across a children's playground - that's what made me think Tor.

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 21:04

Tor is nice
[folds arms determinedly]

janeite · 07/03/2009 21:01

Tor is not good imho. But don't let that stop you, as Hector is so sweet in itself.

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2009 20:59

The bit in The Iliad where Hector says goodbye to his wife and small son before the battle is a masterpiece. Very moving.
Hector is a positive character in The Iliad, if I remember well.

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 20:54

well i think he would probably get called Hec wouldn't he? which i really like....but Tor is ok too. Our cat is called Thor which is similar and we love that...x

OP posts:
Saltire · 07/03/2009 20:53

Hector was killed by Achilles in greek mythology. Apparently.

DrowningInClutter · 07/03/2009 20:52

Would you actually call him Hector? I'd always think about what it's likely to get shortened to, even if you wouldn't use a short version it's likely to happen at school. I really love the name Tor so I'd do it but maybe think again if that doesn't appeal to you.

Ronaldinhio · 07/03/2009 20:51

william is excellent in every way

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 20:51

ok kerrymumbles.....you just redeemed yourself with your last post....my bottom lip was a-quivering til then....
