Davy for a girl???

We are expecting DC3 in May and seriously stuck on girls names.

Boys names we have narrowed down to 3
Zachary
Liam
Saul
With Davey as the middle name.

For a girl we are stuck and then i thought of Davy or Davi either with or without -Jane.
Reasons behind the name are that my Grandad passed away last June and his name was David. He use to refer to himself in the past as Davey and this is how i remmeber him. I would really like to include him somewhere in the name.
We already have two girls and both there names are connected to others in the family ie, great nan and great great nan and great grandmas.
DH is very unsure of Davi/Davy-jane for a girl, but the more i say it the more i like it. So what does the world of MN think?

I've known a few female Davys and one Davy-Ann, all of them had an Indian connection though. I think it means goddess or similar in an Indian dialect.

I quite like it as a middle name.

But would she appreciate it growing up?

My aunt was given the middle name 'Neville' after a family member and she hated it and was teased about it, too.

Davina, Davine, Davida, Davita, etc - great girl's names.

Davy-Jane sounds like Davy Jones, as in Davy Jones' locker... from Pirates of the Carribean. She won't thank you for it!

Davida/Davita are female versions of David...(with a short sounding "a" and the emphasise on the VI so it would sound like DaVIta not Daaavita).

Davy-Jane is really not good. It sounds like an American hooker. (Sorry!)

Also, if you've got one daughter with a hyphenated name, I think it would be quite odd to give your other dd a hyphenated name too.

My parents are both big David Bowie fans and if I'd been born 29 minutes later, it'd have been his birthday and they would have called me Davey, regardless if I was a boy or girl. Thank god I came out when I did, is all I will say. I really cannot imagine introducing myself as 'dave'.
I do know a female called Stevie, so maybe Davey isn't too bad but I'm pleased it isn't my name. Sorry

thanks, after a long debate we have decided to use as a middle name with Alayna as first name. Will probably be a boy anyways now.

I think it's good for a middle name only. I mnetioned on another post I think unusual names are especially nice with two other more traditional names.

Eg Charlotte Emily Davey Smith.

Sorry, but I really don't like Davy-Jane and my first thought is that rhymes with gravy train... Dunno why that springs to mind or whether I'm the only one?

I do like the idea of just Davy for a girl (I think) but (in my weird head again) I would pronounce Davi differently (long aaaaa).

Like the Davina and nickname idea tho.

I like Davey for a girl. It is also the name of a character in a Judy Blume book I loved as a teenager

my DD3 is Dylan so I have no problem with names more commonly used for boys being given to girls - there are a few of us on here with more predominantly boys names used for our daughters but the majority don't like it

we DID decide though to have a girly first name and Dylan as her middle name, although this is what she is known by, to save any confusion on forms and to give her a choice when she's older if you see what I mean?

she suits Dylan and those who were sceptical have now shut up about it - just be aware you're going to get a lot of funny looks and comments from those with old fashioned views/no manners!!

on the flip side of this I myself have a hyphonated name which is something-jane and I've hated it all my days, sorry!! I just wish my mother had been decisive enough to pick one name and use it

good luck with whatever you choose and I think its lovely that you want to honor your grandfather by using his name
