Eleri Samphire?

Just typing it I feel like the answer may be yes.

DD2 is due in a few months. DD1 (15mths) is called Megan Juliet. Her second name is after my sister who died.

I wanted another Welsh first name for this little girl, although living in England now, but have been struggling for a middle name.

People have raised eybrows at the name Eleri - is Samphire adding fuel to the fire?

DH and I are prepared for fulla nd franck feedback. What do you really think?

Why on earth Samphire? It's a sort of vegetable - delicious with hollandaise sauce, but not a name!

MinkyBorage · 01/03/2009 21:22

My initial reaction was the same as others re the samphire, but then I read through your op properly, I think it becomes a totally different name when you give the history of it. Your dd will be proud to have the heritage of your sisters name, it's a really special precious thing, and Eleri Samphire is beautiful, it really is.
Sod what anyone else thinks, just follwo your heart.

tiggerlovestobounce · 01/03/2009 21:22

I like Eleri. Not sure about Samphire though. On the other hand, people dont use thier middle names very often. After the birth announcement has been made it will probably be a long time before anyone hears it again, so if you both really love it then I wouldnt worry too much about it.

willowthewispa · 01/03/2009 21:21

Eleri is lovely, and most people won't ever hear her middle name anyway.

hester · 01/03/2009 21:20

Eleri Sian?

catweazle · 01/03/2009 21:20

I like it actually. The rhythm of the two names is pleasant and they flow nicely together. If you like it, why not?

BriansAmazingBeard · 01/03/2009 21:19

i like it with the 'i' at the end

hester · 01/03/2009 21:19

Well, your baby your choice etc. But since you are asking for fulla nd franck, here it is: I think Eleri is pretty. Eleri plus Samphire is, for me, OTT. Sounds like the name of a fictional little girl who is born in a herb garden and grows us playing with her friends Tabitha Thyme and Rosie Radish.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 01/03/2009 21:18

Eleri is lovely.

Samphire is not.

How about Mair?

suwoo · 01/03/2009 21:17

I went to school (in Wales) with an Eleri, so no big deal to me, but Samphire? Now thats a new one.

hellymelly · 01/03/2009 21:17

I love Eleri, but I think Samphire doesn't work with it really, also not that lovely a thing to look at (albeit very tasty) a bit like calling your baby Eleri asparagus
I thibk a one syllable name would work well with Eleri.Do you want a second welsh name ideally?

BriansAmazingBeard · 01/03/2009 21:17

reminds me of

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2009 21:17

Gosh I haven't had samphire for ages. Nice with vinegar.

Hassled · 01/03/2009 21:17

Samphire is something you eat if you live in Norfolk. It grows on the beaches. It's like calling her Eleri Asparagus. Please don't do it.

differentID · 01/03/2009 21:16

Eleri is fabulous- Samphire is a green coastal vegetable surely?
Something like charlotte would go well with Eleri and sound nice with her sister's name.

lisalisa · 01/03/2009 21:16

tbh - I don't really like it but it is unusual and has meaning to you. I don't think she'll hate you forever no.

abbierhodes · 01/03/2009 21:16

Hate it, sorry.
Sorry to hear about your sister though.

silkcushion · 01/03/2009 21:15
