Do you care if close family do not like the names you choose?

We had sort of decided on Talia (spelling will be looked into as it seems there are several ways to spell it but want to decide on a name first of all).

Hadn't decided 100% but I am 32 weeks and it is the only name me and DH both like.

Anyway, said it to MIL and Mum and both, although they didn't actually say anything, it was very obvious they didn't like it (and this was seperatly so didn't influence each other on that).

In some ways I think "sod what they think" but then on the other hand I think that if the only 2 people in RL that I have told so far didn't like it then maybe we have made the wrong choice?

Well I wasn't actually going to tell MIL but DH said it without thinking. We might just keep it quiet from now on I guess. Hard though when everybody is asking what she will be called!

Hi soon2be - If you and DH both like it, well, good for you!
I personally love the name Thalia, - it is a very pretty name, but it is for you as a family to sort that particular thorny issue between yourselves. Good luck!

I don't believe in telling people until it's the name of an existing child. That way, they are polite. I am sure my ILs must have disliked our dd1's name in the beginning (she's M a r s a i l i, pronounced to rhyme with partially), but they've never commented to us. But now she's just her. And we still love her name. And so does she. She loves that no one ever spells it right!

We didn't come up with that till 38 weeks though, so don't panic yet!

Talia is lovely too.
