Currently pregnant with dc3 and already have an Arthur and a Henry.

Shortlist for DC3 if a boy is as follows:

  • Oscar
  • Albert (bertie or bert)
  • Willoughby

Honest feedback please especially regarding Willoughby as DH convinced its not a proper name but one i've made up.

Why Willoughby? It's 'orrid. Why not just William?

warthog · 23/02/2009 06:54

oscar - yes, the rest nonononononononoooooo

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 06:45

Willoughby -nooooo! Unless you are very aristocratic. Oscar is nice, Albert ok too. What about Digby? Cute, nn could be Digger.

nooka · 23/02/2009 06:35

I think Oscar has become a bit overused, and I really don't like Bert/Bertie (somehow a bit twee in my mind). I have a cousin Willoughby. It is a real name, just unusual (and originally derived from a surname, but then many names are). I wasn't sure about it at first, and I am sure he won't be best pleased when he starts school, but it does suit him. I think it would go well with Arthur and Henry. However if your dh isn't keen then you need to think of something else. Not many Williams around at the moment!

branflake81 · 23/02/2009 06:24

None of them.

Especially not Willoughby.

Quattrocento · 22/02/2009 22:41

Go for Willoughby, do.

edam · 22/02/2009 22:39

Willoughby? Good grief. Think those p/g hormones are playing havoc with your taste and judgment. (It was a surname in Sense and Sensibility, btw, not a Christian name.)

dinkymum · 22/02/2009 22:35

like
oscar but really like Willoughby

intheLiffey · 22/02/2009 22:01

None of them. Re-jig Oscar and get braver version "Victor".

Willoughby makes me laugh. The cad from Sense and SEnsibility!

Albert. No. Just No.

Thunderduck · 22/02/2009 21:40

Willoughby is cruel. I don't like Albert but love Oscar.

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 21:12

Kristina is right - Edward goes very well.

KristinaM · 22/02/2009 21:07

i think edward is good with Arthur and Henry. So you can have Artie, Harry and Teddy/Eddie

nigglewiggle · 22/02/2009 21:04

ALBERT - DD's would have been Albert if they weren't DD's! I love it.

Cies · 22/02/2009 21:04

I think Albert goes best with your other names.

What about Edward?

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 21:00

it's a good name for 100 years ago. And a great name for a cat!

feedthegoat · 22/02/2009 20:58

Wiloughby is definately a real name. It was my great grandads name and when my grandma's brother did family tree it appears several times and was obviously the 'family' name used once each generation. I however didn't fancy taking it up so my uncle has named his cat it instead!

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2009 20:53

Willoughby Wallaby Woo!

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 20:50

Willoughby - is it a name? You couldn't seriously do that to a child.
Oscar - good name, but is too popular at the moment.
Albert - a good name, but your house will sound like an old folk's home.

jellybeans · 22/02/2009 20:35

Oscar

evamummy · 22/02/2009 16:20

Yes, Oscar is getting too popular imo....

I like Albert. What about Quentin, Elliot or Jasper?

Marthasmama · 22/02/2009 15:39

I LOVE Albert. It's so cute! DD would have been Albert if she had been a DS. DH finally gave in when I was on the operating table waiting for the spinal to take effect!! Oscar was a strong contender for us, but we had an Oliver. Ollie and Oscar is a bit twee.

2pt4kids · 22/02/2009 15:34

Albert goes best with your other Dc names, but a bit too similar to Arthur maybe?
I like Albert best

laidbackinengland · 22/02/2009 15:33

My DS1 is Oscar - but it is very popular now (Was rare 12 years ago grr) My DS2 is Wilbur and it's suits him very well. A friend has a Wilf too. Would either of those do for an alternative to Willoughby if others think it too caddish ?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/02/2009 15:31

My shortlist would all go well with your others - Dominic, Elliot, Lawrence, Duncan.

epithet · 22/02/2009 15:31

Willoughby just makes me think of Kate Winslet shrieking it in the rain in the film of S&S.

Oscar is cool; Albert still a bit old-mannish for my tastes.
