Willoughby, Oscar or Albert?

traceybath · 22/02/2009 15:18

Currently pregnant with dc3 and already have an Arthur and a Henry.

Shortlist for DC3 if a boy is as follows:

  • Oscar
  • Albert (bertie or bert)
  • Willoughby

Honest feedback please especially regarding Willoughby as DH convinced its not a proper name but one i've made up.

Love your DS's names. I'm thinking Arthur, Henry and Wilfred are great together. I know a 4 yr old Wilfred who is cute as a button and is shortened to either Wilf or Fred. Suits him perfectly! It's not too popular but suits the style of your other names really well.

As you appear to like "B" names this time around (Beatrice and Bertie), how about

Byron
Brian
Bob (Robert)
Bertram
Bernard
Benjamin
Benedict
Bartholomew (nn Tolly, which I think is lovely)
Barnabus/Barnaby

Clary · 24/02/2009 00:19

oh traceybath I like yr DSs' names!

Albert is nice but a bit similar to Arthur maybe? (tho not if Bertie).

I like Oscar as well.

How about Wilfred? Stanley? Sidney? Eric? Frederick? Edwin/Edward/Edgar? Or George. George is good.

Not mad about Willoughby, it's a surname in Sense and Sensibility and a first name in Tell Me Something Happy...but he's a rabbit (a nice one tho).

Could be Will I guess which is pretty cool.

I see everyone else has made all my points already!

bellabelly · 24/02/2009 00:08

I like Albert and love Bertie as an abbreviation. But Albert is a bit close to Arthur. How about Herbert?

drlove8 · 23/02/2009 23:48

what about WARREN? its a nice manly name!isnt overused, or too unusual that it sounds made up!

LOL at MadBad

"Oscar is nice but massively over-used (two in my daughter Melpomene's class)."

Oh yes. DS is called Agammemnon. We call him Aggie

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 23:06

Digby

georgimama · 23/02/2009 20:01

I also love Ptolemy.

Issy123 · 23/02/2009 19:26

My DS's are Henry and Albert both great names that go well together.

Tidey · 23/02/2009 18:56

I'm sorry, I don't like any of them. I'd choose Oscar if it definitely HAD to be one of those three, but it reminds me of the green puppet that lives in a bin.

If you choose Albert, please don't use Albie as a nickname, it's the name of the racist dragon on Flight of the Conchords.

I clearly watch far too much telly.

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:51

Now jayden thats a lovely name isn't it.

Perhaps in katie and peter andre style we should just call it junior.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 18:47

Ptolemy is by far the best, yes ...or Jayden?

MrsSeanBean · 23/02/2009 18:46

OP - Albert.

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:46

You're quite right mrsmattie - i did ask for feedback.

Think i'll just go with ptolemy and be done with it .

Tracey - I love the name Noah too but reckon it will be dated and labelled as a classic norties name just like the Chloe and Jack of the 90s. Not necessarily an issue if you love it and prefer it to George personally.

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 18:43

It's not to my taste@tracey

Look, you asks for an opinion, you gets one!

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:32

lulu - i do like edward but its fil's name and don't want to name child after him for many reasons

OP posts:
Lulubee · 23/02/2009 18:28

I agree - Edward is the nicest!

There's a rather rude joke about a Willoughby...something to do with Winston Churchill farting in the bath!

traceybath · 23/02/2009 18:25

Blimey MrsMattie - i don't think willoughby is that pretentious. I like Will but don't want william as have a henry already.

Anyway said about 3 hours ago i'd discounted willoughby and was now favouring George. Hopefully thats not too pretentious .

OrmIrian · 23/02/2009 16:20

Oscar maybe. Not keen on the others.

Actually, I can't bear those Americanised, surname-as-first name names like Riley.

Still think Willoughby is about as pretentious as it gets, though.

georgimama · 23/02/2009 15:42

Go with George, you know you want to ....

EachPeachPearMum · 23/02/2009 15:17

I think Willoughby is lovely, but I appreciate my taste in names is not everybody's...
